Bought a Carver 36 ft Mariner two months ago. A big change from my MacGregor 26 sailboat. Having to learn about plumbing, mechanical and electronic systems has been a challenge.

View the latest post winterizing closed-loop system

Hi All,

I've never winterized an inboard. So I need some affirmation.

This is a closed - loop system, so besides the heater hoses on the port engine, what else is there after you blow it out thoroughly with anti-freeze? I can't see where else there could be water. Am I correct on this?

I appreciate your thoughts.

View the latest post Loosing oil in helm of upper station.

Hi,

Carver 3207, year 1987. Still a beauty and I still love her :-)

I lost all oil through he helm on the upper bridge. Is there a seal that can be changed or do I have to change the whole Hynautic System attached to the helm.

I found a lot of information on this site on how to refill and re-pressure, but I need to fix the leak. FYI - I looked behind the dash and there is no leak - it is definitely in the front part of the helm.

Thanks for helping me out.

Cheers

Jozie B.

View the latest post 430 Cockpit - Cockpit to sun deck ladder

Has anyone replaced the 'standard' ladder with some type of spiral staircase? IMHO the ladder is not as safe and easy to use as a spiral staircase.

Goes for any other model with a ladder vice staircase.

View the latest post New to Carver - 1983 Riviera

I am taking delivery of a 1983 Riviera this week. I have loved this boat since the 80s. I am coming from a single engine 24' Larson Delta Conic cruiser, so this will be quite the adjustment.

Hopefully, I'll be able to learn some tips and information about the Riviera and the systems onboard.

2017 will be a fun season!!! BTW....All the Trent Canal locks in Ontario will be free in 2017. It'll be a good year to explore.

View the latest post New to CYO

Hey all!

Have only owned the boat for 45 days. Apparently we bought somebody's problem child. It's been an adventure to date and we are still learning things. Hoping to learn even more from here!

View the latest post Battery Drain Conundrum

I'm hoping forum members may be able to shed some light on this problem I'm having. The marina mechanic was unable to solve. He installed two brand new batteries on my 2000 326 aft cabin. He advised not to leave the battery charger on while it's docked on shore power for days at a time. When I leave the boat I shut off shore power two switch, and leave one on, with only the three bilge pumps and refrigerator left on. All the other switches in the off position.
Returning several days later my batteries are drained. The mechanic took a reading, one battery was very weak, the second completely drained. He replaced the dead battery and we were off and running. For only about a week or so. I discovered this past Sunday my batteries are dead again. This time I turned on the charger for a couple of days, but no luck, they are still dead. What am I doing wrong? :help:
