View the latest post Swim Platform Ladder

All you 355 & 356, etc. owners. This swim platform ladder sucks. Anyone replaced it and with what to make it a little easier to get on the platform. Or has any one added plastic runners to the steps. Contemplating changing it out for a 4 run under platform model that stacks into itself. We still have to tie a line off the back grab bar to assist getting back on the boat. Mike :help:

View the latest post Adding 2-stroke oil to fuel tank-good idea or bad?

I was talking to a fellow boater the other day who suggested adding 2-stroke oil to the diesel fuel tank (ratio 100:1 diesel to oil) in order to add lubrication to the fuel for the fuel pump, which is missing with the low sulfur fuel available these days. He seemed knowledgeable on the subject, but I thought I would get opinions from here. What do you all think?

View the latest post Looking for a good 3D sonar set up

I am trying to find the best option for a headless 3D sonar set up. I run navionics on a tablet and I want to use that as a display. Raymarine has sonar that designed to use a mobile device w/navionics as the head but I didnt see any info on 3D.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Steven

View the latest post Exhaust muffler replacement starboard Carver 326

Can anyone offer some insight as to what would cause a leak in the bottom of water uplift muffler? Also, tips on getting access to re and re would be appreciated. Starboard muffler leaking water from the bottom into the bilge.
Will not fit between floor frame, but looks to me like it should come out just front of helm seat pedestal. Will require removing starter batteries and generator muffler to move it out. Any experience or suggestions would really be appreciated.

View the latest post Checking Engine Oil Level - Hot or Cold Engine

Hi Fellow Boaters

This is probably the easy question for the day. I have a Carver 404 (twin Mercruiser 7.4L engines) and am curious if you check your oil level with the engine cold or warm/hot. When I google it, several recommendations are cold, but wanted to get some "real world" opinions.

Thanks
Rich

View the latest post Attachment(s) Cracked riser on my 7.4 merc?

I just purchased a 91 carver 370 aftcabin about 2 weeks ago. I had a survey done and he said it was in great shape. He noted a few things in need of repair but nothing major. I havent taken her out other than a sea trial and manuvering to my new slip in the marina. I'm still familiarizing myself with the boat and the systems. This is my first inboard and sealed cooling system but i understand it pretty well or so i thought. Anyway, i started the starboard motor and after warming up it immediately overheated. Checked the obvious first, i put my hand on the risers and noticed that the starboard side riser was at an acceptable temp but the port side riser on the engine was pipeing hot and i could hear the air in the lines bubbling. Air is not good and tells me there's a leak. After looking around and checking fluid capacities i noticed a faint rust drip at the bottom of that hot riser. After looking closer i could see it was cracked and had rusted itself closed to some extent. No water coming out but I'll bet air was getting in. I pulled the riser today to prep for getting a new one and i was surprised to see that it had a gasket that was purposely on there to close off all the 4 outer ports in the exhaust manifold??? I could clearly see antifreeze in one set of the outer ports and i assume the other 2 are for the raw water to exit throught the exhaust because there is a 90 degree hose fitting leading from the thermostat housing that connect to those ports. Why then were they all closed by the gasket? I could see the gasket was made to do that but why...is my question? I need to get a new riser but i need some info b4 i go out to get it. Any info will help...thanks in advance.... Steve

View the latest post Used Car or Used House ... how do Brokers work?

As we get ready to buy our first 'big' boat (Carver 404 hopefully) one (of many) things that is still a mystery to us is how used boat brokers work. What's the model?

Are they used car salesmen - only have the seller in mind, looking to get away with what ever they can with the buyer? Only one broker per deal, the sellers?

... or ...

Should we look at it like buying a house? The seller has a broker looking out for them, and we get a broker who'll look out for us ... both brokers get a cut of the sale price?

While reading and researching helps with the list of questions we'd ask a seller, we'd REALLY prefer having an experienced professional on our side looking out for our interests.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.
