We are new members to the Carvers OWNERS FORUM. We currently own a Meridian 341- 2007 model. We have been living on board since January of this year. We sold our house of 38 years in January and moved on board. We have our boat for sale and have been very interested in replacing our boat with either a 466 or a 506 Carver. We have looked at a few 466's but have yet to set foot on a 506. Of course we want a freshwater boat with Cummings diesel engines. Which we are finding to be somewhat rare! My wife has retired and I hope to retire in a some capacity after the first of next year and start doing a little more traveling. Our home base is at the 700 dock in Joe Wheeler Marina at Joe Wheeler State Park which is right next to Wheeler Dam on the Tennessee River. We are looking forward to learning from all of your members about Carvers and diesel engines.

View the latest post HOLODECK is HOME!

Last week, we made the final trip up to Maine and brought HOLODECK, our 1994 390 CPMY home. We bought her in December 2015, and went through a myriad of disappointments, right on down to a sea trial with a motor that was knocking after the broker said it was 100% ( I HATE brokers, those lying SOB's!) Anyway, we got a starboard engine replaced and after escrow, it cost me $5,100.00 out of pocket. We gassed up and headed for Cape Cod. Once we hit Gloucester, MA the new engine quit. After quick triage, it was determined there was a failed fuel pump. We limped home on the original port engine at 2800 rpm's for the remanding 96 miles at 7 kts. yes, I would never buy a trawler. After getting her back in her slip, I found a bad fuel pump and a broken eccentric collar, and the sea water galley of the pump filled with gas. So the bearings were wiped out. I then decided to check the port engine, and yep, some gas in that pump and the bearings getting noisy. So two new sea water pumps have been ordered along with new fuel pumps. We have her all cleaned and spiffy and in process of installing Quantum radar along with new RayMarine e127 and e 97 and Standard Horizon AIS radio. Hopefully, next weekend will wrap up the work and we can enjoy this fine lady of the seas!!

View the latest post Helm Seat Base Repair

On our way back from an outing this year I noticed that the helm seat was rocking back and forth on its mount.... not good!. Took it apart and brought the swivel base home for investigation. Here is my video of the repair

View the latest post Attachment(s) '96 Carver AC "Entertainment Center"

I am a new member having just purchased a '96 Aft Cabin. I am recently retired and new to cruising thus this will be my "starter boat". I am now trying to bring some if the interior refinements into the 21st century, and was wondering what people have done about mounting/placing a flat screen tv and or what you've done with the entertainment center containing the vintage cassette deck player on the starboard side of the saloon.

View the latest post Bow thruster battery

Hi all! I am trying to find the battery for the bow thruster on my 2000 Carver 506. Have looked everywhere I can think of, tried unsuccessfully to trace the power cables (lose track of them going through bulkheads and behind equipment. It does not seem to be located near the thruster as logic would dictate--the on/off switch is located on a bulkhead in the aft of the engine room. Any insights would be most appreciated!

View the latest post Prop size for a 1990 carver 430 with Cummings 300 engines

The rpms are running at 2100 so it was suggested that the prop sizes were biting too much which was also loading up the one engine with carbon. The engines should be run at 2400 rpms from what I've been told. So the prop company worked on the props. I asked to change the prop to allow the engines to run at 2600 not 2100 rpms. The work was completed and it is running at 2200 rpms with a loss of 1 knot. What should be the proper prop size?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Wasps

The past two or three weeks I would often see a wasp or wasps flying around inside my boats salon area. This kept happening so yesterday I decided to put my full attention to what was going on. The wasp would gain entry to the cabin through the gaps in the cabin entrance door.

I watched it squeeze itself in through the door. It would then fly past me sitting in a chair by the lower helm station. It disappeared down into the galley area. When it flew past me and squeezed back outside through the cabin door I moved down into the galley area.

I waited a few minutes. Then I saw the wasp outside which then made its way back through the gap in the door and into the cabin area. It then flew down into the galley area and disappeared behind the sofa on the port side of the cabin. I waited for it to leave again.

Then I pulled the sofa away from the wall. There stuck on the backside of the sofa was the beginnings of a wasp nest. These were mud daubers as the roughly 3" by 3" at that point nest on the backside of the sofa. I peeled it away from the sofa back and walked outside and tossed it into the water.

I then sat back down in my seat and waited. Shortly thereafter a wasp came back inside through the door. It flew down and behind the sofa. This time it spent a lot of time back there. It probably wondered what the heck happened to my nest. When it flew out into the cabin from behind the sofa I was waiting with a fly swatter. I started hitting it and continued to hit it until it stopped moving. 1 down.

A few minutes later another wasp came aboard and when it left I followed it outside and swatted the heck out of it. Not sure if I killed it or not. I will check behind the sofa next time I am aboard the boat. My main reason for killing them is obviously they do not belong inside my boat. I am also allergic to wasp stings. Not seriously so but enough so that it does cause me minor problems. I have not been stung by a wasp since the mid 70's and being a lot older now I could maybe have a more serious reaction to being stung.

It was an interesting day.

View the latest post Attachment(s) The Waubic

Anyone located on the Trent, Lake Simcoe or Gbay, the Waubic Restaurant is a must stop. Between Swift Rapids and Big Chute, food is great, its a family owned business and is water access only. Don't expect quick service when you are there - enjoy your time and relax while being served, there is no rush to leave. They have 30amp service only if you are staying overnight at their docks. Ask for George the owner, and tell him I sent you.

Six of us went there for an overnite trip. Foxy Joe sitting beside my buddy's 45 SeaRay.

View the latest post Knocking sound in port side

Hi all.

I'm new to the carver boats. Just bought a 2000 carver 356 aft cabin. Has 7.4 mercruser' and a 7.3 kW genny. I bought this boat from FL. When I got it on the water for the first time in GA it ran good till we were halfway across the lake and the port side engine wouldn't hold RPM. It starts up every time and dose. OT run hot. Runs right on temp wise. I've been told the gas in the boat is probably old just want to run it by you guys before I call a mechanic to come look at it.

Please note that my Genny and the port engine run off same port side main tank. And I also have a problem with it revving RPM's and them backing down repeatedly for a few min then it shuts down. I can most of the time start it right back up only to have it do the same thing. I am attaching a video of the port engine running today. PLEASE HELP!!
