View the latest post Potable Water Line Size

Unfortunately there are 2 sizes of water lines in boats. Anyone know if Carver used the 1/2" or the 15mm in the more recent boats with the red and blue lines?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Gasoline engine oils

As gas Mercruiser owners, we know the factory recommended lubricant is the Mercury Quicksilver 25W40 conventional oil. I am using it now in my Merc GM 6.2 blocks. In my area, marinas sell this brand for around $36.00 for a four-litre jug.

There's so much written about engine oils - some confusing.

I've read that the Shell Rotella Triple Protection 15W40 is a good alternative. I saw this brand at my local auto PartSource store on sale for $25.00, for 5.5 liters, regular price of about $28.95. This oil is made for the Diesel engine market, but I believe some gas boaters use it. Do you? If so, do you like and recommend it?

Some use straight 30 weight oil.

So what's your engine oil experiences, likes and/ or dislikes?

If you have the marina do your oil changes, do you even know what they put into your engines?

If you are a do-it-yourselfer (I am) then you get to choose your oils. What's your preference?

Feel free to go all out in this topic. Perhaps you want to write about brands, blends, or conventional versus synthetics. I used Volvo synthetic on my last Volvo GM block boat.

Cheers all

Steve

View the latest post 350 Mariner Port Engine over heats at idle

I have searched the post but have not been able to find anything that helps as of yet. My problem is that my port engine over heats when I am in gear at an idle, temperature shoots up pass 200 degrees and I have to shut it down. To date this is what I have done.
Raw water side:
Rebuilt Raw water pump, flushed Transmission cooler, Had the heat exchanger removed cleaned tested and re-installed & flushed the raw water system.
Closed loop side:
Replaced thermostat, flushed and replaced antifreeze.

Flushed and changed oil in both engine and transmission.

The unusual thing is it only happens some time and only when I am in gear and at idle to dock or anchour, as soon as I bring the rpms up to 1000 it cools right down to 165. Any help will be great.

Who should I call?

Plugged into dock electrical. My refrigerator works on the battery only and when I tried to plug its cord into electrical socket it trips my outlet. Should I call an electrician or refrigerator technician?
Now the fridge is the original with boat so its 30+ years old but still would like to get it fixed.

View the latest post Can't locate Transducer on Carver 3207 AFT Cabin

Hello,
My Lowrance X70 Depth finder works but the data or reading is wrong. Appears that the distance works but depth indicator doesn't. I was told that the transducer probably needs to be re-adjusted so went in cold water and tried to locate under the boat. Does anyone know where its located?

View the latest post Princess Dual Burner Stove Top Removal

I want to remove the existing unit and replace it with an induction style unit. How is the unit secure place? Is it simply double sticky tape glued down or are there fasteners underneath. I would like to not have to pull the fridge if not required.
