View the latest post mariner and thruster battery

I have a 2003 Carver Mariner and I am trying to figure out which battery or batteries power the bow thruster. on my previous boat I had a separate battery in the main salon to provide power. I just got this boat and all the other items are all good on start up except the thruster which sounds like a dead battery. thx in advance RJ

View the latest post Mercruiser 7.4 MPI - 3,200 Max RPM, High Fuel Consumption

Greetings,

I have a 1998 Carver 400 CMY with twin Mercruiser 7.4 MPI engines, MEFI-2. I've had the boat for about 6 months. Starting with the sea trial, it was noted that the Starboard engine would not rev to much more than 3,200 RPM under load. The Port revs freely to about 4,400. Starboard will hit 4,400 in neutral. The engine isn't showing any fault codes, my engine guy is using Rinda's Diacom software. Props, standoff bearings, shafts all check out fine.

Engines were checked out, and the starboard did have one cylinder with low compression. I got a purchase allowance, and both engines have new manifolds and risers, and the starboard has new OEM heads. Compression good all around. 3,200 rpm max on Starboard is still there.

I also note that fuel consumption on the starboard engine is about 30% higher than the port engine. 3,200 is a good cruising speed, and I'd probably leave things along, but the fuel consumption is a problem.

Based on my internet research, it's likely a sensor issue. 3,200 is the 'safe' rpm for limp home mode, and there are a few posts out there with similar symptoms, but often end before a conclusion is published.

My question to the group: anyone heard of similar problems, and a resolution? I think the next step for me is to swap sensors between the engines, and see if the problem moves to Port, thereby identifying the problem sensor.

Thanks!

John Magrann

View the latest post level gauge for fresh water tank

I am trying to find a fault with the gauge for fresh water tank fill level. This is on a 1994 / 370 aft cabin. Gauge reads empty, pulled it out of panel in aft head, no power to the sensor. Power wire is orange and is labeled "L7" . This gauge / wiring appears no where is documentation from Carver, wiring diagrams, user manual, etc. Anybody know where meter power comes from?

View the latest post Attachment(s) vacuflush leak and smell in head unit

Here we are, question #3. 2000 carver 356 aft cabin. Vacuflush unit issues. Last week I replaced the water valve (pedal-flush) because clean water was leaking out from it to floor out of unit. Simple inexpensive change and I was happy. Now the front has issues. Not sure same issue so I ordered the same water valve part and also seal replacement. Here is the problem, since purchase (1.5 months ago) front head was flashing full few days after pump-out, even though not used. Now smell started coming out of it. And I had it pump-out 4 times in 1.5 months already. The water seems to stay in bowl, so it's not leaking, but something is leaking and tank indicator shows its getting full. So I am assuming its the valve, unlike stern, maybe this time it is leaking into the tank, as that would make sense tank is filling up. Not sure I need to replace the seal as the water seems to stay in bowl, but how can smell come through if that's the case? maybe 2 separate issues, leakage being one that fills the holding tank, and seal causing smell issue? Any ideas from anyone is greatly appreciate it. :banghead:

View the latest post Opinion on 2757 Montego

Hello Everyone!

My wife and I are looking at a 1989 Carver Montego. We live in Myrtle Beach and mostly cruise the ICW and hang out at Bird Island and are looking to upgrade from our current jet boat. We've just outgrown it and after being caught in a nasty microburst last year my wife is insisting on something with a cabin!

I'm fairly new to boating but my wife grew up on Lake Ontario and has been boating her whole life. I doubt I know enough to ask intelligent questions so I'll keep it brief.

Any opinions on this particular boat? Any common issues? We would keep the boat in a local marina and spend some nights on it there and occasionally an overnight on the water.

I can't seem to find much online so it seemed like a natural choice to come to the folks that own Carvers.

Thanks in advance,
Frederick
