View the latest post Starting Issue

I have a question.

I have a 2002 380 Santego powered by 2 8.1 GI-IA Volvo engines. Recently the port engine has been giving me some starting issues.

Last weekend ran great started every time.

Prior week.
I turned the key no audible alarm, the engine would crank but not start.

I am worried that one time I am able to leave port and I go to return the intermittent problem will leave me in the gulf with only 1 engine

I did some research and I had my battery switch on both all the time Since last weekend I turn if off when not at the boat and I rotate from 1 to 2 every other day.

Should I look at the relays or is this possibly a charging issues

View the latest post How the heck do you repower a 1994 39 Cockpit MY?

As I was laying down last night to sleep and thinking of getting HOLODECK down here from Maine in the spring, a thought popped into my head.....how the heck would one pull and replace an engine if it ever needed to happen in this type boat? There is NO straight access into the salon area, it is either up a set of stairs or down a set of stairs. OK, I am ready for any answer anyone can give me. !!!!! :censored:

View the latest post Fresh Water Tank Gauge Not Working

:help: 1998 Carver 355 MY, my fresh water gauge in the galley does not register the water level in the tank. Always empty.
Checked the DC voltages on both the sender the gauge and all points read pretty much the same on both. Voltage in and out at both ends. Pretty sure wired correctly, if I turn off the breaker for this unit I believe the gauge floated up, as soon as I turn the power back on it went to empty. Any Ideas, sender unit? Gauge? Though someone would have run into this and could advise. Thanks!
Mike

View the latest post Carver Mariner 1999 vs. Santego 1999

Folks, my wife and I have been looking for a move up boat for a while. WE really like the Santego's walkway thru the bridge, the way the helm is positioned at the back of the bridge and the 2 settes on either side.
Since these are somewhat hard to find, we've branched out and are looking at the Mariners 1998-2003(before the redesign). We've found a few of these and they seem to be a little less expensive than the Santegos.
Given this, I'd appreciate and comments on the following:

1. I see most Mariners have the 5.7L engines (either Merc or Crusader). I also notice that a lot of them have at least one engine rebuilt - Could these be underpowered for the 36ft Mariner?
2. The opening behind the Bow bench seat seems to collect water from the wind shield above it. Does anyone have issues with this kind of design?
3. If you had a choice between a boat with 2 7.4L Mercs with 250 hrs but has been sitting for 2 years vs. one with 7.4L Mercs that have 650Hrs but have been well maintained over the years - what's your preference?

Thanks in advance, it's a tough decision...

View the latest post Bottom paint

I know this probably has been a popular topic of discussion on the forum in the past, but I need some guidance on this topic. I will be performing maintenance on the hull this spring of my Carver 405, a task that I have never performed. What I know is the hull was most likely done 3 years ago prior to the owner I purchased from. From what I can tell is this guy did minimal maintenance in the 2 years he owned it before me. It was kept in fresh/brackish water and my surveyor said the bottom was good through the 2015 season. My question now is once pulled and cleaned up, what to paint the bottom with? In reading I like what I have read on ablative's, but I have many questions and there are a lot of products out their. My boat is in salt/brackish water and I want durability but I don't want to break the bank in doing it. Ease of application is a plus as I will be doing the project myself with a rag tag crew and much grogg! Any suggestions either pros or cons is appreciated.

Also, what are members experiences if any in using DRX products on the props/shafts etc. Thanks all!

View the latest post Newbie Frozen in Chicago

Just joined your awesome group! ..In sept we purchased our 1990 Carver 3207 (aft cabin) in Seneca IL, after 2 short shake down runs, brought her on a 14 hour run up the river through 3 delayed locks to her year around
(in water) home at Marina City Chicago. Shes a great (original mom and pop) boat, with under 800 hours all original and unmolested!

I use her as "crash pad" in the city when I overnight. Beats the 2 hour commute home to the suburbs. And allows me all the joys of summertime family boating in Chicago.

After this short winter, Ive learned much of whats required to keep a boat warm, Engs and pipes unfrozen and liveable in the "arctic". knock on teak, the only issue Im researching is the replacement of a 25 yr old, poorly running Norcold (nevercold) fridge. I will look at RV models and or going to non DC voltage (for cost savings).
Shes mostly at the dock anyway! let me know if Im off base or should drop the $2K+ on a OEM replacement?
Kinda hard to explain to the wife a $2k beer cooler! LOL

Looking forward to Learning and putting my 43 yrs boating of experience to good!

View the latest post Window screens

Took my first look at my port and starboard window porthole screens on the 1997 405 and they appear to be in bad shape. The screens also look like its molded into the gasket. I probably already know the answer, but are these screens still available? The carver manual provides part numbers of 7057410 (P), and 7057411 (S). A search on the net provided negative results. Any help or advise is appreciated.

View the latest post 1998 355 MY Windshield Parts

Looking for 1-Windshield Cap, it's a c-channel cap with 2 screw holes one side. Called Taylor the windshield manufacture and they only sell them in a package of 2 for $40.00, $25.00 for handling and $20-$25 for shipping, that's $90.00 of 2 pieces aluminum c-channel about 1.25" long. Any Idea's? I think I'll look around, must be something close I could make them out of.
Just thought someone might know of a salvage yard with Carver Parts?
