View the latest post Attachment(s) Hairline cracks on entire hull - anyone fix?

Just removed bottom paint and discovered that the entire perimeter of the Hull below the waterline has hairline cracks (crazing) from the paint stripe running north south to the Chine. Also found a few hairline cracks on the bottom hull - but not as extensive as the area above the chine.

Spoke to Carver and they admitted that they had a product defect back then and stopped using material from that supplier. Never determined why some boats had cracks and others did not. Either way - they say it's on me to fix it.

Any thoughts? Carver recommends a strip down of the gel coat layer and the barrier coat down to the glass layer. Then add an epoxy filler layer, barrier coat, and bottom paint. Estimate is $10k.

Not sure if I do this or pocket the $10k and see what happens. Boat is 12 years old and has no water intrusion.

I posted pictures in case someone else has had this problem.

Any help appreciated.

I have a 2007 Carver 420SS. Broke two shafts within a month of each other. Less than 300 hours. Mechanic says its either a problem with design or quality of metal used. Anyone else have this problem? Sent a note to Carver and not getting any response.

View the latest post Hull thickness on 1994 39' cockpit Motor Yacht

Been looking for a transducer to install in our new to us 1994 39' Cockpit MY. My last Bayliner was fiberglass over plywood. Is this the case of a Carver or is it just fiberglass? I am looking at an Airmar B744V, but also have the B744VL (extra long) one available. Which one should I be buying? I would hate to own two! Any help would be FANTABULOUS!!!

View the latest post 1994 Carver 39' Motor Yacht

We just became the proud owners of a 1994 Carver 39' Cockpit Motor Yacht. She had been owned by the same person the last 18 years and yard maintained. Powered by 7.4 Merc engines. I have a couple of questions:
Do these Mercs have carbs of Fuel Injection?
Since closed cooling, is it just the risers that need periodic replacement?
Anything special or out of the ordinary I should look out for?

Thanks, The Admiral and I are glad to be aboard!
