View the latest post Waste Tank filter replacement

I have a 2009 Carver 38SS. Does anyone know the make and part number of the waste tank filter? I can't get into it close enough to find it. Also, any ideas on the best places (cheap prices) to order it? Many thanks! John Brown

View the latest post New Carver Owners in Northern VA

Hi all,

We just purchased a 2000 Carver 396 AC with Cummins Diesels, and will be based in Northern VA. We are excited to find the owner's group to share our experiences and pick the brains of others. We have made a lot of family boating trips, mostly sail, but some motoryacht charters, but this is our first boat ownership and we already have an emerging punchlist of questions!!

Looking forward to our new adventures onboard "Weather or Knot", and being a part of the Carver Community.

Happy Boating

View the latest post My Carver 2687 Project

Last week my brother and returned with the 1984 Carver 2687 boat I purchased and boy what a long ride that was. About 2200 miles round trip from Springfield, GA to Canyon Lake, TX. The boat itself is in really good shape other than the engine, but I knew that going into this deal. I got it really cheap and plus the couple I bought it from where going through a divorce. Repairing or replacing the engine is no real big deal for me since I'm involved in drag racing and do that sort of thing all the time. The exterior is in good shape as well as the interior, although a bit dated. Once I get done it will look like a new boat. As I progress I'll post all my changes and updates here. Right now it's too dang hot and I'm no spring chicken so I'm going to wait until the fall to start work.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Bilge Fans - independent or ganged

Hi all,

I have a newly-acquired 2000 Carver 396/Diesel, and was only able to obtain the owner's manual for the 2002 model (from Carver), with a note that not much/if anything changed between 2000-2002. My question is about the Bilge Fans.

There are 4 separate bilge fans, each with their own circuit breaker. There is also a "bilge fan master" switch. Curiously, though, the 4 bilge fans are not wired independently, but rather ganged through fan #1 (i.e., fan #1 has to be on to allow any fan to be on). To be sure I'm explaining this well:
* With the Fan Master "on", and all 4 Bilge Circuit Breakers "off", no fans run. As expected.
* With the Fan Master "on", and only Fan #1 Breaker "on", then only number #1 fan runs. As expected.
* With the Fan Master "on", and only Fan #2 Breaker "on", **NO** fan runs. This is also the case for fan #3 "on" or #4 "on". This seems strange, because the fans would seem to be independent of one another. The wiring diagram in the owner's manual (different year), shows the fans as independent.
* With the Fan Master "on", and Fan #1 "on", and Fan #2 "on", then **BOTH** fans run. This is expected, but in contrast to the point above, it indicates the fans are ganged through Fan #1.
* Obviously with the Fan Master "off", no fan runs. With the Fan Master, what would be the value of ganging the fans through Fan #1???

The issue is that the Fan #1 circuit breaker has to carry the load of all 4 fans (because of the ganging), and it pops when all four fans are running. Any combination of 3 fans (e.g., #1, 2, 3, or #1, 2, 4, etc...always requiring #1 to be on), will run without problem.

Before I re-wire this back to having the fans independent, I wanted to check to see if there is any reason for the ganging, or if there folks that have similar ganged wiring.

Thanks
--Jim

View the latest post replacing salon window

We own a 45' 1988 Californian. The starboard salon window shattered (not sure how we were away from the boat at the time). The only thing holding it together is the sunshading film. We were told by a glass person that the teak molding would need to come off on the inside to get to the track that the window sits in. Does any one have experience on how to replace this window or know where we can go to get a replacement? We are currently in Columbus MS.
Thanks ahead for any help and/or guidance.
Randy

View the latest post Saying Hello!

Hello all, I have owned a 1977 Carver Mariner 3396 for 2 years now and have loved every minute of it. I am going to start doing some remodeling and upgrading and figured this would be a good place to ask some questions after I figure out where I am going to start. Thanks in advance for any info and knowledge I gain from the group!

Thank you for allowing me to join. We are a day away from aquiring a 1990 3608 Carver Aft Cabin. I grew up on the Great Lakes on a 1985, 3207 Aft Cabin. They are awesome boats and looking forward to getting back into cruising. Looks like there is a wealth of knowledge and expierance on the forum and I am looking forward to reading all this info.

I hope it doesn't get me kicked off the Carver Yachts Forum, but I also own:
1952, 15ft Lyman
1938, 21ft Chris Craft Utility
1966, 18ft Chris Craft Corsair
and
1981, 21ft Chris Craft Scorpion

My wife is certain that I have a problem, but she has enjoyed playing with all of these also!!!

View the latest post oil additives

I am not a fan of additives except seafoam but I have a small issue that I would like some help with. I have a carver 3607 aft cabin with crusader 350 engines. Approx a week ago the port engine started blowing a small amount of smoke thru the exhaust, not enough to leave a sheen on the water (rings no doubt). I P.M. the motor sat and the plugs were clean so it is a new and small bypass. If this were my truck I could snatch the motor, do rings and bearings and reinstall in a long weekend, but this is not only a boat it is an aft cabin, the engine well is in the middle of the salon. To compound the issue I have family that want to spend a three day 4Th of july weekend out. We are crusers 1100/1200 rpms 6/7 knots so I can watch the oil and I will be ok but I hate the thought of the pollution issue. Has anyone had any success with any oil additive. The boat is an 84 so the engines are ready for a rebuild. Have a great day Ed

View the latest post ac water strainers

Hello I am new to the carver web site. We have always used hull truth but being brand specific is great. We have bought our first carver. It is an 84 36 ft aft cabin 3607. We love it and are attempting to learn all that we can about the idiosyncrasies of this model. I am 70 and my wife is 67 (50 years together) we expect this to be our last boat and hope to make it a semi live aboard. We are experiencing an issue that I would like some input on. We have three ac units all separate and on their own breakers. Lately when we run the salon ac it will run for several mins. and then trip the main breaker. We have two power cord inputs, one for the ac and one for the general electric. Each ac unit has its own breaker but the salon is the only one that causes a problem and then it trips the ac main not its designated breaker. I have searched and can only find one raw water strainer and one pump. Any and all input will be appreciated, please do not fail to mention the obvious because what is obvious to you may be greek to me. I am leaning toward a weak main but this is an airpax and this model is obsolete and the ones I have found are over $200.00 Have a great day (preferable on the water) Ed

View the latest post 2005 Carver 360 Sport Sedan Cockpit Drains

I have just purchased this boat last week and have a few questions. The cockpit drains.... They are hidden with no access to the top of them to clear any clogs. I was very fortunate while I was bringing her down the Mississsippi from LaCrosse WI to St. Louis last week to be a part of the May Fly hatching event at Captain Kirks Marina. Literally thousands of these on the boat and 3 people 1 hour to get rid of them at 5 am. Trying to clean the cockpit deck flushing these out and I'm pretty sure the drains are slightly clogged. Unless I'm blind, I see no way of getting to these drains other than from under neath pulling those stiff hoses off. And to me very odd that these actually drain under water. That brings up another issue. How are you supposed to winterize these? Our boats are in covered slips but stay in the water which we bubble but I need to blow back through the seacock and close so they don't burst. My only thought is to cut those hoses and engineer something so I can force air or water back up for clogs and air only back down for winterizing.... More to come and very much appreciate any suggestions.

Dave
