View the latest post 3007 Aft Cabin Engine power circuit query
- Posted by: PCOMT » October 26th, 2014, 9:51 am
- Forum: Electrical
I have a 1981 3007 aft cabin. I have reviewing and drawing out the starting power circuit because I am confused by the 3 batteries and how the house circuit seems to be designed.
I drew this schematic/design based on the wires I followed.
What led to this initiative was the fact I could start the engines no matter which position the switch was in. If it is in position 1, I start from the battery #3. If it is in position 2, I pull from the battery bank consisting of battery #1, Battery #2.
I want to add a larger battery bank and install an inverter, but I need to understand the existing system to ensure I can rewire the engine batteries to work with the engines only. The new bank will become the house bank and power everything except the engines.
My questions are:
1- How does the alternator output tie into the existing circuit? ( I forgot to follow the wire when at the boat the last time)
If this was a domestic car, I would expect the alternator output would tie into the starting circuit and feed back to the battery on the main line. (I could be on the wrong return wire)
2- Does anyone know if this is the case?
3- Can / Should I wire the engine batteries directly to the engines, bypassing the battery selector switch and depend on the ignition circuit to isolate the power from the system?
4- Does anyone have a diagram that would be better than what is installed now?
Note:
The charger has 3 outputs, not 3 chargers

So, yesterday (Saturday, October 25th), I took PartnerShip on the 3 hour trip to her storage destination. When I left Cedar Point Marina, the waves were less than 1'. AWESOME, I thought! By the time I reached the Chagrin River (65 + miles away), Lake Erie had swelled to 3' to 5' waves in a following sea. It was the first time in our 2 seasons of owner her that she had been in that big of water. I must say...I LOVE THIS BOAT! She did exceptionally well in that water, not slamming even once. I left Sandusky Bay at 25 MPH (3200RPM) and entered the Chagrin River at the same speed and RPM, not changing it the entire way. BRING ON NEXT SEASON!!!!

Hi. 1 have a 466 and the fly wire is damaged on the aft port windows, I unscrewed all of the screws to see if the frame easily comes off and it doesn't. The inside rubber seal seems glued and I don't want to damage this. Any help on The correct way to do this would be appreciated. , line in PNG so parts are not redily accessible.

View the latest post bad transmission?

- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
So I cruised out to our local large marina to get my tanks pumped out before winter. Pulling up to the dock, I idled back to neutral but was still going forward too fast. Threw both engines into reverse but wasn't slowing. Gave it some gas and the starboard engine stayed in forward and sped up while to port went into reverse. Needless to say, way too close to the pier and the 3207 bumped into the end of the dock as it spun sideways to the starboard side. Bounced of the floating docks and back into the open water. The marina owner is yelling " my docks " and I'm yelling " my boat is stuck in gear". Line everything back up and try again but still the starboard engine will not come out of forward gear. I threw it in reverse again and tried the throttle but it only went faster in forward again. Luckily was stopped by a wooden retaining wall. Needless to say, the most humbling and humiliating docking experience of my life. Not sure of the damage until I get it pulled out tomorrow.
The mechanic comes down and finds that the shifter cable has popped out of the retainer. We think this an easy fix until we hook everything back up and start the starboard engine only to find that it immediately goes into and stays in forward. If we pulled it back into reverse, the motor would die. The shifter cable is working and you can see the lever work from forward, into neutral , and into reverse, all this occurs while the motor is off. The mechanic says the tranny is having issues.
Even after 6 or 7 rum and cokes with my buddy, who knows boats, I'm at rock bottom. What is involved in working on a 1987 3207 transmission? The guys at the marina are saying they may write off the boat due to the gel coat damage, although it doesn't look that bad to me and definitely does not affect the seaworthiness. Will have to get some estimates once everything is on dry land.
There are lots of woulda, coulda, shoulda answers to what happened, and believe me I've put myself through all of them, but I didn't see this coming and don't know what I would have done different.
I'm just looking for answers, if any body has them, about the transmission

View the latest post My shower hose is stuck...not so simple

2002 570 Voyager. Master head shower is a one piece unit. The shower hose coming out of the shower seat worked just fine until a few weeks ago. Now it seems somthing has fallen or wrapped around the hose. I cannot fully extend the hose. I cannot find a place to access underneath to check what is catching on it. Any clever thoughts on how I can fix it without completing taking out the head?

I am looking to pick up a rebuild kit or specific parts for my windshield wipers. They are leaking water. I know the seals need replacing but also the port side does not work so may need to replace. Anyway, looking for some advice on where best to do the research to buy the parts. Ideas? Thanks

View the latest post Solid or Cored Hull
- Posted by: Brianna » October 22nd, 2014, 10:02 am
- Forum: Carver Yachts Forum - Model Discussion
I am considering the purchase of a 1977 Mariner 33 but I have a few questions.
For some reason there are 3 of them for sale in my immediate area. All for $3,500 or less.
First of all, are there some big known problems with the 1977s that they are so inexpensive compared to other Carvers?
With proper maintenance is it likely that the chevy 350s are still in serviceable shape?
Most importantly, does anyone know whether the hull (below the water line) was still solid glass core or was Carver already using balsa core in 1977?
That will be the deal-breaker for me. I can rebuild the interior and rebuild the engines, but I don't want to get involved with a possibly soggy balsa-cored hull.
