The original control units are so small I can hardly read them . Anyone ever replaced them with a larger , more readable unit?

View the latest post 70s-era Carver Monterey?

- Forum: Carver Yachts Forum - Model Discussion
Hi folks! I'm new to the forum and Carvers in general, though I've been a boater for many years and know power boats fairly well. My wife and I have been shopping around for a new-old boat and have come across a mid-1970s Carver Monterey in good condition that we quite like. However, I can't find any information about this boat or 1970s fiberglass Carvers anywhere. The Internet has failed me.
If any of you out there know about early fiberglass Carvers from the mid-1970s, I'd sure love to hear about them. More important, I'd really like to know what I should be looking for when I go through this boat in detail and have it surveyed. What should I be aware of? These boats look like they are composite construction: basically a wood boat built in a fiberglass hull. I'm a bit wary of saddling myself with wooden boat problems, but don't know how much of an issue that becomes with this type of construction.
Help me, Obiwan. You're my only hope.

- Forum: General Boating Discussion
Hi Folks,
I'm getting a brand new baby Carver C34 in a couple of weeks and have to make some decisions about what electronics to purchase. I've been looking for a navigation package the has broad band 4g radar/GPS/Chart plotter/Fish Finder. I have not been able to find a package that has all of those things. At least I can't tell. It's very confusing what the existing packages actually have. I would like to get Simrad, Raymarine or Lowrance because those appear to be the only brands with 4g broad band radar. I'm not looking for a combination unit with all of those things in the same box. I would like to get a networked system with separate units but I can't find a package deal and I don't know enough to buy all of what's required to make it all communicate and work together.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Confused

View the latest post Heating/AC to Fly Bridge?

- Forum: General Boating Discussion
Has anyone figured out a clean way to run heat/AC to the fly bridge? Maybe the bigger Carvers already have that but I'm getting a baby C34 in a couple of weeks and I'm concerned about freezing my ass off in the winter. I boat year round and in my 25' Skip Jack sport cruiser the engine covers were in the cockpit where the helm was. With the canvass completely enclosing that area the heat from the engines kept it nice and toasty even on freezing cold days. I'm concerned about being up on the fly bridge even with a complete enclosure.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone, it's nice to be a part of the Carver family. I hear that Carver takes care of it's customers. That is nice to hear. I am running up to Sausalito on Monday to sign papers and give them a check. The C34 is in AZ and will hopefully be delivered in the next week or two. I'm actually buying this boat sight unseen and am a little nervous about that. I'm told that it will be the first of the new C series Carver's in the San Francisco Bay Area. That is pretty exciting. They are even borrowing it back so they can show it in the S.F. boat show in late January.
I am coming from a 25' Skip Jack so I am a little nervous about the ability of the Carver to handle heavy seas, logs in the delta, etc. compared to the Skip Jack with it's thick double hull with floating foam in between. The C34 looks like it's pretty sea worthy and got a very good review by Boattest.com. They said that it's a very solid and responsive boat. I guess I'll find out. The Skip Jack may have been tough but I would get beat up in chop and with it's 8' beam and deep V hull it would lean horribly when someone moved around while under way. I think the 34' with it's 13' beam and spacious cabin is going to be so much more user friendly. Anyway, I guess that's about it.
Cheers!

View the latest post Prop Shaft Problem
- Posted by: mikekomm » January 4th, 2014, 5:00 pm
- Forum: Carver Yachts Forum - Model Discussion
We just purchased (escrow closes next week) a 1989 Carver 4207 that has a loose nut on the transmission end of the port prop shaft. We are taking possession of the boat next week and moving it to a new marina. Assuming that the taper / keyway has not been damaged from the loose nut condition, we are hoping that we can split the coupling open and just tighten the nut on the end of the shaft and avoid having to have the boat hauled out of the water and the shaft removed. Our boat has Cat 3208's and Twin Disc 507's. We don't have access to the boat now to determine if there is enough room in the engine compartment to open up the coupling and slide it down the prop shaft far enough to be able to get a socket on the shaft nut to tighten it. I'm hoping that someone with this same model boat knows whether or not there is enough room to do this.

We just purchased a Carver 4207 to cruise and live aboard. We have a couple of dogs and want to protect them by installing netting around the deck to keep them from going "swimming". Are there different levels of quality of netting available and where is the best place to purchase it?

We own a 2003 Carver 564. The bifold shower door in the bow of the boat is missing a handle. Looks like the handle is 7inches long and has 2 screw at each end 1/2 inch apart. Any recommendations on where I can get the shower door handle replaced?
