Good Morning All,
So my last trip I had a low oil light go off for the Walter V-Drives. What oil do I put into the drives? Do I just pour it into the dip stick hole?

I hoping by getting the info from people who know i can avoid some pitfalls.

Done a ton of reading been to the local Marinas here a few times,know some boat techs ( i did cars for 30 years)
and been on a few forums.With all that the Carver hands down is what i want.The wife and i will be spending a few weekends and longer a a few times some friends would be along some comfort and not being crunched in on each is important and no one does all that like Carver.

Wanting a little advice on my first boat ( yeah im a real newbie ) what to look for and just how you like your Carver.

View the latest post Apparent Leak in Water Tank


Have a 2005 Carver Mariner and have noticed that the water tank (70 gallons) is leaking and over a weekend period all 70 gallons of water will leak out (I guess into the bowels of the hull.

1. Does anyone know where the water tank is located and how to gain access?. The fill is on the port side of the bow.

2. Has anyone had a severe water tank leak and if so, what was the cause? I suspect it may be a fitting on the bottom of the tank but I guess I have to find the tank first???

Hi I just bought a 1998 350 Mariner. I am feeling cold air when the AC is on up at the captains chair. I'm thinking it might be some problem with the ducting. Has any one had a similar problem? What did you do to correct it?

Hello, My name is John and I currently own a 2001 406 with twin 454 cid 380 HP mpi. My lovely wife and I keep our yacht on Lake Texoma which is a very large lake between Okla and TX so this yacht is not overkill for the fresh waters. Some of the best sand beaches, yes beaches, you can play on. I have been boating since 1962 starting with Dad and family and then continuing as teenagers in the early 70's with a joint own 16ft with brother Sam. After growing up and becoming carreer oriented I have owned 4 boats starting with a 18ft open bow, 26.5 Bayliner Cierra, 32ft Cruisers and finally my Carver. I told my wife when we purchased this boat it would be the last but I might have spoken too soon. I perform all repairs myself except for the ones that require a haul out so I am very experienced in Electro/Mechanical theory as I do this function as a professional. It is funny how your status changes with the color of your hair. When I was younger my friends call me a Cheap (I will leave the rest out) then I became Frugal and look at me know, I am a Cost Engineer. Love it.... I will contribute to this website in a professional manner attempting to give other members the best information I have BASED on experience. I will try not to "chime in" just because but I am human. A man expecially (The girls will love that statement). I am glad to be aboard on MY FIRST FORUM so while you laugh at me just remember, I am on the other side of this monitor just crying away. Hi Everyone,
Just wondering, small engine fire, diesel engines with an oil hose rupture fire.
I am going to look at her this week.
I was hoping to see if there is any good advice here.
1) The ups and downs of a 405,
2) Bilge fires and what to look for???
(Naturally I am hiring a surveyer to have a look before purchase, but I want was hoping to hear from owners about such items like,\
Running the 405, fuel mileage (Cummings 5.7), pros and cons, hints at this vessel in general

Hi, I'm a new Carver owner 98 Carver 350 Mariner. Just wanted to say hi and I love the Carver. I've owned 5 boats in my life (3 Chaparrals) and the Carver is a beauty.

I was wondering if any one knows anything about the AC units. I think there might be a ducting problem because I feel cool air coming up by the pilots chair. Any body have ideas on how the ducting is set up?

Hello all. I'm straightening out some rigs on a recently purchased 3207 aft cabin. My boat AC water feed has a single seacock with one pump. After the pump the plumbing tee's into two, each feeding one AC unit. Should there be two pumps or is this the OEM set up? Seems the forward unit gets most of the water.

Hey All,

So I finally got the boat out. It worked rather well however it was smoking quite a bit. I kept a close eye on the temp and the oil pressure, but both were consistent and good.

I did have 5 year old gas in the tank so that may be my whole problem, just not sure. Anyone have any ideas?

I also found I have a alternator problem on the port engine but there is no rush to fix that.

So we've been doing everything to our boat, trying to bring it back to life. Have not fired the engines yet.

When we bought her, she indicated less than 300 hours. Before I bought it, I pulled the plugs and used a borescope to check the inards. Also pulled the valve covers and checked from there as well. The engines were obviously winterized properly because everything looked like new. Just a little surface rusting.

I did pull the distributors last year, hooked up a mechanical oil pressure gauge, and using a primer tool and a drill, ran the drill until the battery died and had plenty of oil pressure, plus I pre-lubed everything.

I also squirted an ounce or so of trans fluid in each hole to lube things up.

Today, I pulled the dampeners and I can spin the engines by using a crank tool. Nice and smooth, like they should be.

For the life of me, I can't remember which engine turned which way when I primed the oil pumps!

The setup is a vee-drive; water pumps at the back of the boat, flywheel toward the front. One engine is CW, the other is CCW. Anybody here have a similar set-up? Is the port engine CW or CCW looking at the engine aft to bow?
