View the latest post Bottom paint and or epoxy

I am the 3rd owner of this 28' fly bridge model and just had the bottom sand blasted before putting to bed for winter. Bottom looks good but wondering if I really need to epoxy before painting. Was advised to find out what the composition of the hull was to determine the absorbency of material to see if epoxy is required. 1992 model year and has only been in fresh water. Any answers??

My VHF radio has a loud hum that disappears when I turn off the inverter. There is a filter on the DC side to my radio. Any ideas?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Carver C34

I'm starting this C34 thread in hopes of meeting other C34 or C40 owners. I ordered a C34 and am patiently waiting for it to arrive. I bought the boat sight unseen and am a little nervous about it. I love the floor plan and the engine room is awesome! The bow is really tall giving it a seaworthy appearance. I hope that it's more than just appearance. The lack of a radar arch is frustrating and has caused me a lot of time trying to find the right after market arch for it. It doesn't have fresh water cooling either. From what I understand the raw water will run through a heat exchanger not through the engine. If I understand it correctly the only parts that will come into contact with the raw water are the risers, manifold and heat exchanger. I can always put on an after market fresh water cooling system. I guess this is what I have to deal with for buying an entry level boat. I love it - a $400k entry level boat! It's so tempting to save some money and buy a used bigger boat that's fully loaded. But I didn't want to start out by having to sink money into it. Been there done that. I bought the 6 year extended warranty that covers everything so I'm not going to have to worry about anything other than zincs and bottom paint for the next 8 years. I hope I like it as much as I think I'm going to.

Anyways, I hope to hear from some other C line owners.

Cheers!

View the latest post Dock Water Problem

Hello...I own a 1986 3207 purchased in May...the boat is located in Baltimore....I have the boat in the water for the winter...engines are winterized....water systems are not as we visit the boat on weekends...space heaters are running in the cabin all the time....I monitor cabin temperature remotely via a WIFI camera...although I disconnect the dock water hose when not there, apparently the recent extreme cold damaged the water system right below the dock water intake value...you can hear the water running and the bilge pump kicks in...can anyone tell me how to access this hose and the best way to repair it? thank you!!

The original control units are so small I can hardly read them . Anyone ever replaced them with a larger , more readable unit?

View the latest post 70s-era Carver Monterey?

Hi folks! I'm new to the forum and Carvers in general, though I've been a boater for many years and know power boats fairly well. My wife and I have been shopping around for a new-old boat and have come across a mid-1970s Carver Monterey in good condition that we quite like. However, I can't find any information about this boat or 1970s fiberglass Carvers anywhere. The Internet has failed me.

If any of you out there know about early fiberglass Carvers from the mid-1970s, I'd sure love to hear about them. More important, I'd really like to know what I should be looking for when I go through this boat in detail and have it surveyed. What should I be aware of? These boats look like they are composite construction: basically a wood boat built in a fiberglass hull. I'm a bit wary of saddling myself with wooden boat problems, but don't know how much of an issue that becomes with this type of construction.

Help me, Obiwan. You're my only hope.
