The fridge worked fine on "high" on shore power for 12 hours, then started cycling on and off (you could hear the compressor kick for a few seconds, then "off") when I turned the temp knob to the halfway position. I turned it back up again and the compressor turned on and stayed on. I placed it back to the halfway position and then we went to DC power once we were underway. We checked it every couple hours and noticed the temp was coming up. I couldn't hear the compressor, but am not sure it was off or on due to the power plant noise. I verified the DC Refer switch was on, but didn't troubleshoot any further.
Around the evening we were plugged in again, and it was working without the cycling I mentioned earlier, so I swapped over to DC. After an hour, I verified the fridge was still working in that mode (the freezer plate was cold), and then placed it back to AC power.
The next day it was dead, other than a few pathetic attempts to kick on, then off.
I'll have a refrigerator tech check it out in a couple weeks, and can survive on coolers for the time being. I started pricing similar capacity units on the off chance the repair isn't economical, but don't see anything for cheaper than a grand or so. OUCH.

Hi all,
My wife and I purchased a 1993 280 Express last week and we piloted it from a marina on Cayuga Lake, NY, through the canal system, to Seneca Lake, Watkins Glen, NY. This is our first cruiser; we have owned a variety of ~19-20" open bow boats that we used in North Texas lakes. My first impressions, after the trip are: BIGGER, SLOWER, more comfortable, and the slow speed handling is very similar to our previous I/Os. I had the vessel surveyed prior to purchasing, and am pretty happy with it so far.
We plan to use the vessel as a weekend "camper", and have equipped it with a portable 10K BTU AC, a 410W inverter to drive a fan, LED "party" lights, and to charge our phones while we are on the bridge. I'll be replacing/repairing the fridge and stereo in short order, as the fridge died 7 hours into the shakedown cruise and the stereo is dated. We have a 1yr old female boxer to round out the permanent crew, and are just experiencing the good and bad of marina life.
I'm looking forward to meeting other members, learning about the ins and outs of boat ownership, and am very open to advice!

- Posted by: nancyannyorktown » June 24th, 2013, 11:17 am
- Forum: Electrical
We are in the process of refurbishing the upper helm panels on our 1992 Carver 28 Aft Cabin. I need to replace the original aluminum dash and instrument panels to accommodate modern electronics.
Does anyone have any drawings of these panels that could be used for a fabricator?
Does anyone have a panel that was replaced, that still has the old panel?
Does anyone have a recommendation to have these replaced?
Does anyone know if there is any NOS panels available?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
John

View the latest post ac pump issues

- Forum: AC/Heat, Plumbing & Sanitation
I have a 1988 36' mariner aft cabin. The pump for my ac units isn't working correctly. The macerator on the pump turns very slow to where its not pushing any water through the lines.I removed it and took it to a shop and had it bench tested. Works perfect and shows no sign of wear. I cleaned the strainer on the inlet after the ballcock. When the pump turns on it stops running after about 30 seconds. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what could be causing this to not work.

Good Morning All,
So I wanted to scare the kids in front of the boat and found that the thing I thought was a horn is a hailing speaker. What is this the purpose for this?
I now have to reconnect the thing I thought was a broken radio!

So I had my sewage tank pumped like a month ago. My son recently filed the whole thin up with water, what can u do? I told everyone, no toilet until I get it pumped out again. It was so full that I had to scoop out pee and water from the toilet to keep it off the floor.
Yesterday I went to get it pumped out again. Nothing would pump out. They said it was empty. I knew that was not possible. I dig around, looked under the floor, looked under the frig and found a pump. It is the macerator pump. It pumps my full 9 gallon tank to a much larger tank under the floor where it can be pumped out.
Ok feeling stupid but thankful that I now know how to work that part
