- Forum: Introduce Yourself!
Bob and Fran, closed on our Santego 3867 last Friday after owning sailboats for more than twenty years. Old age has gotten in the way. It's a 1989, repowered with Cat 3116s in 1993. Love the layout except for only one head. One unusual feature, it has a dishwasher. We had a washing machine on our cruising boat, but never a dishwasher, that was always my job. The interior and outside cushions look like a new boat. The last owner was using it as a AirBnB, hence the great looking interior and cockpit cushions. Mechanical and electric will keep me out of the bars for a long time to come. I expect I will be a frequent poster with lots of question.
Boat is located in League City, TX.
Thanks for reading,
Bob

- Forum: Introduce Yourself!
Hi folks.
By way of introduction I'm a Canuck who lives and boats primarily in and around the Kawartha Lakes of southern Ontario. I've been at it with the same boat for 20+ years -- a 1981 Cruisers Inc. Veesport 266, powered by a Mercruiser 454 and TR drive. Old, but still beautiful, obsolete drive but got the job done.
We are currently in the process of purchasing a new to us a 1988 Carver 32 Montego Dual Cabin with twin 454 Crusader engines and v-drives. Its only had two owners and well cared for.
So, bigger boat (that I know nothing about experientially), twins instead of a single and I'm expecting something of a learning curve as far as operating and maintenance. To date I've done most if not all of the maintenance and repairs to the Veesport and pretty much know it from top to bottom and hope to continue doing so as long as health allows.
I am also looking for a trailer to store the vessel on but haven't yet been able to find any of the boat's critical dimensions that will assist me in setting up a trailer to set it on e.g. "inside prop distance, "rudder/prop depth", transom to front of prop" etc.
We are excited about the new-to us-venture and look forward to several more years of this style of boating on the Trent/Severn Waterway.

I have a 2007 46 MY with a QL stern thruster. The problem I am having is the stern thruster only runs for 3 or 4 seconds and shuts off. I checked all of the connections everything is tight. I checked the current draw at the motor and it is reading about 300 amps. The voltage is about 22 volts at the motor while it is energized. The connections and the motor are barely warm. After I release the joy stick you can immediately energize it again. While testing i did that 8 -10 times with little change in the length of the run. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the problem may be.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Waste Tank overflowed?
- Posted by: theorifice » September 5th, 2023, 3:55 am
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
The valve for the crownhead (fresh water) got stuck slightly open sometime in the last week. During that time the fresh water tank emptied into the head and subsequently the waste tank.
Waste tank is definitely full now and more than likely overflowed. What happens when the waste tank over flows? I had maybe though the head would have overflowed and drained into the shower sump but didn't see any evidence of that today.
I've since fixed the issue by disassembling the valve and removing a piece of rubber.

Here we go. We have 4 house batteries. All connected with 2 gauge on the rear 3 which are in parallel. If I was to do an amp test on just the rear 3, I get an average of 1450 cca. The 3 are 750 cca rated deep cycle(flooded). If I do the same test from the front main house battery, I get 1100 cca . So 4 house, all excellent shape, all 750 cca, and I get only this. Bull I say. The distance between the front house and the rear 3 is 8 feet, But, using proper connectors and wires. I did the voltage drop calculation and it should be around .01 volt dc. Even with our solar panels, we had 1 day on the hook which was cloudy, so the only thing running was the vacu-flush and fridge. The next day, it was like the fridge wanted to thaw. I wondering if the battery isolators have anything to do with my draw.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Replacement Anchor Bail
- Posted by: theorifice » September 4th, 2023, 8:42 am
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
It seems our anchor bail is missing. I can see the remnants of one on the port side. It looks to be mounted directly to the bow deck.
I have not been able to find a suitable replacement through any online window shopping. Any suggestions?
What risks should I be aware of for running without one? The rode is nylon.

View the latest post Water Supply Access from Cabin to Flybridge?
- Posted by: GFB » August 31st, 2023, 3:25 pm
- Forum: AC/Heat, Plumbing & Sanitation
Hello
I have a Carver 350 Mariner 2001. Does anyone know how to get physical access to water supply tubing going from the water pump up to the sink in the flybridge? I can only get access up until behind the cabin sink, no visibility/access to going vertical. Trying to get access to the tubes going vertical to that sink. Appears I have a lead on the water supply to that sink.
Many thanks in advance
