- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
Good morning! We own a 97' 355AC w/ Crusader 454 XLi's, throttle body injected. My starboard engine is showing 80psi at the helm regardless of the engine speed when the engine runs. The gauge itself is working, I swapped the port and starboard gauges this past weekend. I'd like to replace the sender on engine but I'm not sure if I need a single station send or dual station sender. I only have one helm, the flybridge. Any suggestions would be apprecaited.
Cheers!

Hull Serial number,
Hi guys and gals. It has been a while since I have enjoyed your company and help here on the forum. Unfortunately, I am now at a point where I am having to sell my old girl. It is a 1982 3007 aft-cabin. I need to provide a hull serial number in order to list it. I can't for the life of me find it anywhere. Can any of you tell me where on my ship it is located? Many thanks in advance for any HELP!

View the latest post Attachment(s) Most economical cruising speed
- Posted by: MyPleasure » August 13th, 2023, 6:43 pm
- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
Hey there Carver owners, this is our first big block 454 engined Carver, and I was wondering if anyone had any idea of the best cruising speed for the 36 aft cabin? Right now we’re cruising at about 2000 RPM and getting about 8-9 knots depending on the tides, burning about 12 gph, Has anyone found a faster cruising speed, such as on plane at 3-3200 RPM any more economical than what we’re doing now? I know that our 42 aft cabin with the 375hp Cats was got about 9knots at 1800RPM burning about 6gph, but I know that you can’t compared gas to diesel. Our 36 Uniflite aft cabin with small blocks got about 6 gph at 9 knots, but this Carver 36 aft cabin with the big blocks burns a whole lot more than the Uniflite with the small blocks, but then the Carver is a lot more boat than the Uniflite was.
I know that any big block powered boat is not going to get good fuel mileage, but anything better than burning $125 of fuel and hour would be nice. By the way, I’m going by the Navman floscans that are on the boat.
Thanks for any suggestions

- Posted by: Jskhome62 » August 12th, 2023, 4:16 am
- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
Hello all. Joined the forum not long ago after having my bid accepted on a 03 360 sport sedan, so this is my first post. Wondering though if it may also be my last as I just got my survey results back.
Quick summary: boat has the gas Volvo penta 8.1s at 375 hp with about 400 hrs each. During the sea trial (other than the starboard engine shredding a belt which got replaced at the haul out) they ran great. Started right up. Sound good, no skipping/hunting. 20 knots at 3500 rpm. Got a knock in one cylinder on the port engine at wot the mechanic on board thought is a bad coil, but for the short time there ran abt 4200 rpm with no other issues. Compression tests on all cylinders good, Scope of cylinder bores clean - ‘look brand new, nothing of concern here’. Other than a stuck plug in one cylinder the mechanics didn’t want to risk breaking to remove, all the plugs looked clean. There is some indication there could have been a ‘big’ problem in the boats history as the oil pan on the port engine appears to be after market - its black vs red - but cant say for sure. The boat overall will be a bit more of a project then originally expected but overall we walked away with it being a good boat that just needs some TLC as it’s been a bit neglected. All was good until the oil samples came back.
The port engine is showing ‘severe’ particulates on all the wear metals, the starboard is better but also has ‘severe’ indications on a few. The transmissions are clean. It’s unclear when the last oil change was done but it seems there was at least one as the oil filters appear new. The boat has been mostly sitting at the dock as a live aboard for about a year. The running history unclear before that. Only info I can find on line is oil sample trending over time is what you need, and a single result may/may not be a problem indicator.
So I’m looking for opinions from those who have any. Is this a run, don’t walk, away scenario? Are these engines typically robust even with some neglect? Maybe just wishful thinking but could the high readings be due to there in fact being some level of repair on that port engine and the heavy particular is ‘new wear’ caught in that same oil? Know there is no way to know for sure but feedback from anyone with an experienced perspective would be appreciated. I have until next Wednesday to make a buy vs walk decision. Thanks.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Thruster Getting Weaker
- Posted by: Midnightsun » August 10th, 2023, 7:32 am
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
Over the last month or so my bow thruster has been getting weaker and weaker to the point where it has very little power left. Obviously something is not right. Voltage and power to the unit is fine. Anyone know where I should start? Clueless on thrusters but guess I will learn quickly.
Thruster is a Side-Power unit. Found this but not helpful for my issue.
Also found this which may be applicable to me but would like some confirmation.

Hi, I'm having some issues with my fresh water system. I noticed that my overboard vent on the transom is not releasing overflow water when I overfill my fresh water tank. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this or replace it? We have a 1986 4207 with a metal fresh water tank located under the bed in the aft cabin. Thank you!

View the latest post Venturi Window Leaks
- Posted by: Terra Nova » August 8th, 2023, 8:27 am
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
Does anybody have or had issues with leaking venturi windows on their boat? I have a 410 Sport Sedan and the hard plastic window leaks along the window channel between the window frame and fiberglass. I had the window removed, re-set and, seals replaced but still have the issue. New canvas so that is not the issue. The water leaks at the base of the window and I can see water drops form along the seal. It then takes a channel through the inside of the boat. Eventually the water falls into the helm where all the electronics and wires are stored. I lost the VHF radio from water damage now and worried I could lose the helm controls.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

View the latest post 1989 Carver Santego 2767 RPM Question
- Posted by: DukeLang83 » August 7th, 2023, 10:35 pm
- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
I have a Carver Santego 2767 with twin 4.3 Mercruisers. I am not sure if my RPM gauges are showing accurate information. I
cruise at about 28 MPH at 1900 RPM on each engine but when I read some of the other posts it seems that the RPM needs to be significantly higher for me to hit that speed. Are my gauges wrong and is it possible for both gauges to be wrong?
