View the latest post mercathode white wire on control backside

Would anyone have an idea what this wire is? There was a mercathode unit (blue) that I am replacing but it did not have this wire. The is no reference as to what it does in the instructions that came with the new black unit. I have looked and don't find much at all. this is a drive mounted style, not the pucks

View the latest post Batteries and Batteries

West was having a sale on batteries. I got an Odyssey 4D AGM thin plate pure lead and a West AGM Grp 24 for the get set. 4D was at $349.00, and 24 was $93.00. I was going to use the 4D as a starting battery, 1539 MCA and 178AH, usd the GRP 24 for the Kohler genset, and replace the flooded 6V GC batteries with a couple 6V Gc AGM. However I had a ‘revelation”. What if I get a second 4D and mount it under the fwd hatch (390 CPMY), and run 4/0 cable to parrellel the other 4D giving me 356 AH house, and get a GRP 31 as a start battery?Sale is on one more day, so this is something I need to get thought out.

View the latest post Attachment(s) 84 3607 Aft Caabin - no DC ?

I went out to my boat today to replace the stern nav light. Heated indoor storage facility. I connected up shore power to a handy outlet so I could use the lights and then began the replacement. New light wired, I tested it out. Nothing. No light when activating from either the upper or lower helm station. I thought that odd as this is a brand new light. So, I checked both my port and starboard nav lights. Nothing there either. Now I really confused.

I went to the circuit breaker panel and reset both of the Main DC CBs. Then I ensured that all of my DC CBs were on. I tested many other DC devices (salon lights, helm panel lights, engine room blower, windlass, etc). Nothing. Nothing that is DC appears to be working.

The only except are the 2 x voltmeters, one at each helm station. Both function and both report that I have 14 volts our of each battery. Batteries were new in 2022

It "acts" like there is a master DC circuit breaker that is tripped.

Any ideas?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Oil send unit - Physical location on a 1999 Mercury 454

Hello all, I have scoured this site and others and found no info on the actual physical location of the oil send unit for my Mercury 7.4L MPI MIE V-8 gasoline naturally aspirated engine - 330hp SN- 0L303931 & 34 with Velvet Drive Transmissions, Model 20-01-005 direct drive - 2.455:1 ratio.

I will go again tomorrow and search for the units as I am adding an additional oil send unit for my Fox Marine Mefi 3 engine gateways. In looking through the service manual Mercury 90-861326-01. I do not see a pictural view that shows the location either. I will try going page by page tonight but thought maybe someone on here may know exactly where it is at.

Once done I will write it up as a project to share. I already have the Engines connected and templates programed on my Garmin 8612 vsx. Looking forward to wrapping this project up. Thanks in advance.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Electric Power Cat Shuttle

Got to ride my first 100% electric powered boat. This is a perfect application where the runs are short and vessel is parked every evening. About a 20 minute ride at most from the airport to the resort. They can do this 4 times a day (back and forth) without recharging with room to spare. The resort owns 2 of these which is more than enough for all their needs even in the busiest of times. Not sure how fast she can cruise but I doubt not much over my estimated 10 knots we were travelling. Obviously no vibration whatsoever and no noise at all. Pure bliss.

Also comes equipped with solar built in to the roof which helps some but I question the need with such a small amount it produces compared to what is required. They plug in every night when the cat is secured for the evening.

IMHO general boating is far from being ready for electric propulsion however this case is an exception and as mentioned a perfect application with todays battery technology. As battery development gets better, it may rule the boating world one day however I think this will be for the next generation to entertain.

View the latest post No Power, Might Be Fuses? 4207

Hi everyone, our 1986 4207 is having some electrical issues. It doesn't appear to be our power cord or pedestal. We haven't installed any new appliances but our power keeps tripping. I noticed the amp meter was drawing twice as much amperage as normal before it started turning itself off. It's acting like a blown fuse maybe but it still turns on for a little while, everything runs, and then it trips off again. Has anyone replaced any fuses/switches on the main power panel? Are there any tests you suggest to help us troubleshoot why the power won't stay on? Thank you!

View the latest post Attachment(s) New Carver owner here can anyone tell me what this is?

I purchased this carver 280 sedan and found a white box on the front of the flybridge that says "lowrance" on it. It seems to be to small to be any kind of radar.... the fishfinder that was with it is a "lowrance global map 1000" since replaced by a garmin. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone had any answers thanks.

View the latest post Conditioning bronze parts

. . . or something like that. I'm replacing my rudder ports. I need to ensure that the packing nut and jam nut do
not seize to each other and to the port, becoming one big useless lump, as they had previously. Should I apply
dielectric grease to the threads and contact surfaces between the nuts? Anti-seize? Basic bearing grease?
Also, I plan to slack the locking nut and re-grease periodically going forward. How often? Monthly? Annually?
Thanks.
