View the latest post Attachment(s) Voyager 53 replacing helm rocker switches.

I would greatly like to replace the functional but badly discolored helm switches on the flybridge
helm of my 2001 Voyager 53.There are 12 in all. Initially Carver put Eaton switches for which replacement are unfindable (so far.)
Then a little later Carver provided Carling L series ones to replace the Eatons and they fitted. Now after inquiring with New wire Cy in South Carolina they tell me that the L series are not available through them and even when I give them the CarlingL series part number they cannot cross reference them. Has anyone gone recently through the ordeal of trying to obtain them and eventually had some success. Great Lakes has but a couple.
Frustrated but not desperate.
Jack!

View the latest post Hydraulic Steering Fluid Add.

My steering system had a small leak from the seals indoor the dash and the steering is a bit hard at times. I believe that the seals were dry from lack of use because after we drove it the leak stopped. I figure that the fluid level is low and there is air in the lines. Is adding fluid and bleeding the system something I should be able to do without a mechanics help? Is it a two person job?
Do you have a tips for a first-time bleeder? I have the manual with the step-by-step procedures.

Important information: 2002 506, single, SeaStar Tilt Helm

View the latest post Securing bitter end of anchor rode

1984 Carver 3607. The rode locker does not appear to have any anchor points to secure the bitter end of the rode. PO simply ran the rode through a board and tied a knot into the bitter end.

What have any of you done to secure your rode on this vessel?

Jeff

View the latest post Attachment(s) NMEA 2000 Network and FOX Marine Engine gateways

This is a project I have been looking forward to since I purchased this Carver 406. I have made a video and put it on my new YouTube channel. Here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUqpJkHFHOY&t=40s.

In the video, I created a simple graphical diagram to visualize the outcome before getting started. This process helped me out greatly. The connections on my NMEA2000 network are my compatible devices like a GPS antenna, Fusion radio, Garmin Chartplotter, Victron charger, Victron Cerbo GX and FOX marine MEFI-3 (in my case) gateways with the optional oil pressure switch.

This project was far simpler than I originally thought. I also learned the FOX Marine Application on Android or Apple OS gives you a lot of information when the engines are running. The information it displays rivals the DIACOM software I purchased last year, and you can view, and clear error codes form your phone or tablet. The App does cost $4.99 USD. This is not a replacement for Diacom but for a novice like me, it does a great job.

If you take time to watch the video and have any suggestions, please let me know. And if you like it please hit the thumbs up :-D :-D I hope this post is helpful.

View the latest post Adding a 3rd party touch screen to my Garmin 8612

I have not found any documentation on this topic as yet. I have a Garmin 8612 XSV and would like to add a 7" or 10" monitor in front of my shifters to view a second screen from my Garmin like the backup camera, Engine data etc. While the Garmin 743 and 943 are pretty, they are so pricey. I see where they recommend even pricier second monitors on their website, no thank you they allude to other monitors being compatible. The Active captain is nice, but only gives me the same screen I am showing on my Garmin screen, so an Apple ipad or windows tablet will not do the job, I believe?

My Garmin does NOT have the "USB DRD" indication but not sure that precludes this from working. This is my back plane that has a USB-C and HDMI Output that I would use for another touch screen monitor https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/gpsmap8400-8600/EN-US/GUID-DB5F432F-0A17-4E6A-87FF-9C28203E88E3.html

They also give specs When selecting a 3rd party monitor, verify that the display resolution mentioned above and that the specs of the monitor mention it supports USB for touchscreen control. Some monitors may have screen resolutions and interfaces that are not supported by the 84xx, 86xx and 87xx series devices. https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=m7t8ecpaN01mkR2sDLIcvA&productID=799264&searchQuery=3rd%20part%20touch%20screen&tab=topics

Some screens I have looked at are:
https://www.beetronics.com/10-inch-touchscreen-full-hd
https://www.sihovision.com/full-ip65-high-brightness-touch-monitor/waterproof-monitor-sl100w.html I know Chinese sold and made.

Any help guidance or just random thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. Or am I just being cheap and should I buy the Garmin 743 ($1,099.00) or 943 $1,399.00)

Hope everyone is getting ready for Spring, it is here in Atlanta GA by the way I made a YouTube video on my NEMA network and FOX Marine Engine project I will post a link soon.

The is no reference as to what it does in the instructions that came with the new black unit. I have looked and don't find much at all. this is a drive mounted style, not the pucks

View the latest post Batteries and Batteries

West was having a sale on batteries. I got an Odyssey 4D AGM thin plate pure lead and a West AGM Grp 24 for the get set. 4D was at $349.00, and 24 was $93.00. I was going to use the 4D as a starting battery, 1539 MCA and 178AH, usd the GRP 24 for the Kohler genset, and replace the flooded 6V GC batteries with a couple 6V Gc AGM. However I had a ‘revelation”. What if I get a second 4D and mount it under the fwd hatch (390 CPMY), and run 4/0 cable to parrellel the other 4D giving me 356 AH house, and get a GRP 31 as a start battery?Sale is on one more day, so this is something I need to get thought out.

View the latest post Attachment(s) 84 3607 Aft Caabin - no DC ?

I went out to my boat today to replace the stern nav light. Heated indoor storage facility. I connected up shore power to a handy outlet so I could use the lights and then began the replacement. New light wired, I tested it out. Nothing. No light when activating from either the upper or lower helm station. I thought that odd as this is a brand new light. So, I checked both my port and starboard nav lights. Nothing there either. Now I really confused.

I went to the circuit breaker panel and reset both of the Main DC CBs. Then I ensured that all of my DC CBs were on. I tested many other DC devices (salon lights, helm panel lights, engine room blower, windlass, etc). Nothing. Nothing that is DC appears to be working.

The only except are the 2 x voltmeters, one at each helm station. Both function and both report that I have 14 volts our of each battery. Batteries were new in 2022

It "acts" like there is a master DC circuit breaker that is tripped.

Any ideas?
