View the latest post Attachment(s) Adding Steps from Aft Deck to Swim Platform

Hi,

We have a 1988 Carver 4207. We want to replace the ladder from aft deck with steps. Any advice on companies that do this or DIY advice would be very appreciated. We are in the Alton, IL/St. Louis MO area. I attached a picture of an example of what we are looking for. Thanks,

View the latest post Carver C40 Shipping Help

Just bought a Carver C40 with a bimini (no arch/hard top). Shipping company says I need to remove the props, winchshield, and helm.. but it appears even the captains chair is higher than these. Of course, I would rather not disassemble anything that does not need it. Anyone ever shipped a similar C40 that knows?

View the latest post Circuit dropped but breaker did not trip

Out yesterday on 1986 Carver Aft Cabin. Running generator (Kohler) that has 2 30 amp circuits. One has two ac units on it and nothing else. Running both AC units and all of a sudden they both quit. Checked panel and loss of voltage on that circuit but breaker did not trip. panel seemed fairly warm to touch. Let it cool off for a bit and tried resetting breaker and no voltage still. Once I got back to house hooked shore power up and circuit and ac units work fine. Is this a breaker issue or a generator issue? Thanks.

View the latest post Replacing electric stove/oven

Hi Fellas, I want to replace the electric stove/oven on our 36 Carver with a propane stove. My insurance company tells me that it has to be a “marine” stove. As far as I can find out, there’s really no difference between an “RV” stove, and a “marine” stove, except some stainless, and a big difference in price!
Of course I guess that it doesn’t really matter what I think, if the insurance company says that I have to have a marine stove, so I’ll have to spend the big dollar and buy the marine stove. Has anyone else run into the same problem with their insurance company?
I plan on installing the propane tank in a propane locker on the swimgrid like I’ve seen on other Carvers, and run the propane line through the transom up to the galley. I installed a new propane stove on out 4207 years ago, but I do remember that it was a big job!

View the latest post Attachment(s) Loss of RPM’s on both engines at wot

Had the boat out yesterday and put it up on plane for the first time in a while. Could only reach 3000 rpm and 16 mph at wot. Applied tabs to get up on top but missing about 10-12mph.Port and stbd engines running at same rpm. Normal would be 4300ish rpm. Bottom is clean. Props haven’t been touched. Engines are 305 merc’s on a 28’ carver voyager. Marina did plugs, wires, caps and timing end of last summer and boat was running tip top.Thinking it might be a fuel issue as I filled and stabilized last fall and have only burned half a tank this year so far. Seems odd that it would happen to both engines at the same time when running off separate tanks. Marina just did tranny service and water pumps, a month ago, oil pressure and engine temps are normal. Engines start, idle and run smooth. Just missing the top end. Any suggestions. I have ordered fuel filters and will replace next time at the boat.

View the latest post Attachment(s) 2000 Carver 356 breaker for battery charger.

Hi everyone,

This post is a follow-up to my previous one, but since that got a bit long with multiple topics, I’m starting fresh here.

Due to limited time on the boat over the past two years, I haven’t had a chance to work on some mechanical issues. My latest challenge is related to replacing the battery charger. The original one died, so I purchased a compatible replacement and installed it without any issues. However, I’ve noticed a problem: the house battery only charges when I have the selector set to BOTH (1+2).

I know from our previous discussion that the selector switch shouldn’t affect charging. But since I don’t have much time to troubleshoot, I’ve decided to replace the breaker under the stairs that controls charging for batteries 1, 2, and 3. All three breakers are currently in the ON position, yet the house battery (2) doesn't charge when I select 2 or OFF.

When I switch to BOTH (1+2), everything works fine and the house battery charges. If I leave it on 2 and turn on all powered systems, everything shuts off after a couple of hours. Switching back to BOTH restores power, and after a while, the house battery charges fully. From what we've previously discussed, I’m pretty sure the breaker for battery 2 is cracked or has gone bad.

Next time I’m at the boat, I plan to replace the breaker. Since I won’t be able to return for a week or two, I’d like to have the replacement ready beforehand. My question is: does anyone know which breaker switch would be a suitable replacement for the original one in a 2000 Carver 356? I’m assuming the original breaker is no longer available, but I’ll attach a photo of what I currently have. I’ve searched online but haven’t found a match, and I’m not sure what amps or specs I need to look for.

If anyone has replaced theirs or has information on where I can find a compatible breaker, I’d appreciate the help!

Thanks!
