Hi,
I have a 2001 Carver 444 and am having a hard time figuring out how to switch fuel tanks from auxiliary to main. I flipped the switch in the engine room to main tanks but the port engine wont draw fuel from the main. any ideas?
Regards,
Mark

View the latest post 83 aft cabin toilet
- Posted by: markstarbucks » September 22nd, 2019, 6:32 pm
- Forum: AC/Heat, Plumbing & Sanitation
We recently purchased a 83 3207 aft cabin. We love it so far but have a couple issues I’m hoping someone can help with. The main cabin toilet will not flush. It will fill up with water to the rim of the seat but not flush. I thought maybe the tanks were full so ask our marina to pump them. They informed me they could get one to empty but couldn’t get to the other one. Which leads to Second issue
How do you get main cabin toilet to flush?? Or what reason would prevent it from flushing?
Secondly is there a valve or something I need to open to allow my marina to drain the waste tanks??
Sorry if these are simple solution questions we just went from
A pontoon to this and are trying to learn how it all works

View the latest post Best iPhone Apps for Carver Owners?
- Posted by: AskDrCaryn » September 22nd, 2019, 10:20 am
- Forum: General Boating Discussion
Does anyone use iPhone Apps to keep their logbook, navigation, and repair/maintenance records? I have found a lot of Boating Apps in the iPhone App Store, but am overwhelmed by the choices. I use the BoatUS App for my Membership and Insurance. I am using Nebo to chart my trips right now 'cause it's free. I was looking at Garmin ActiveCaptain, but I don't have a Garmin GPS onboard. I have a B&G but don't see any iPhone Apps that work with B&G. If you use an iPhone App to keep any of your boat or boating records, please share your experience with me! Any advise is welcome and thanks for your time and consideration. ~Caryn

- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
New to Forum: Another question. Purchased a 1989 2557 Montego two years ago. 5.7 Mercruiser with Alpha outdrive. 496 total hours. Nice craft but boy, does she stink in cabin. Research tells me it is probably permeated sanitation hoses. I agree since they appear to be original from 30 years ago. Anyone with tips before I start replacing regarding the fishing of these lines through stringer and up into head area? Also from holding tank and up to deck waste port. I am also replacing the original head with a manual Jabsco. Nothing fancy here. Love the lines on this boat and hull stringers are solid or so I believe after my own inspection. Have lots to do before next spring so will be asking questions. Thanks all.

- Posted by: toesford » September 21st, 2019, 3:50 pm
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
New to Forum: I purchased a 1989 2557 Montego two years ago. I have been "slowly" refurbishing her. She has a 5.7 litre Mercruiser with Alpha stern drive. Has a total of 496 hours since new. Started her up when first purchased with mouse ears and she ran fine. This weekend, fired her up again on mouse ears and found power steering not working. Two things. I did not notice if working two years ago. This past weekend I found she was empty of power steering fluid so topped it up. Found it was leaking from a loose fitting under engine into bilge. Tightened clamp and solved that problem. Soooo - what could be causing my power steering not to work? Possibly air in system? If so, how do I bleed it? Just replaced trim limiter and sender units. Never want to do that again. Stupid engineering for through hull fitting but that is another story.
I have other issues I will be asking for help with. Thanks all. One other thing. A marine mechanic told me the boat is underpowered with the 260 hp and will have trouble planning etc. Is this so?

View the latest post Toilet waste (liquid) exiting out the air vent
- Posted by: Ozark Carver » September 19th, 2019, 8:30 pm
- Forum: AC/Heat, Plumbing & Sanitation
1984 3207 Aft Cabin has always had good working toilets until this last couple weeks
All at once when the toilets are flushed no fresh water enters the toilet and the (liquid) exits the boat on the port side
from what I think is the vent tube??
At the same time no fresh water enters the boat when on shore water.---and that's only when hooked up to shore water.
We almost never turn on the water pump nor use the holding tank and up until this recent even had no problem dry
flushing the toilets while under way as we never have put any solids in the toilets at all in the 5 yrs we've owned the boat.
Can anyone see anything obvious in whats happening?
Is it that the toilets only pull fresh water from the holding tanks regardless of being hooked up to shore water?
Tight quarters down there and would love some ideas before I go down and get myself jambed down in there !!

With very high freshwater temps and living aboard full time,I am having to clean A/C strainer weekly. It was suggested that I place a small chlorine (pool) tablet in strainer to help. It sounds like a reasonable solution, however I do not want to damage coils or other components. Any experience/feedback would be appreciated.
