View the latest post Attachment(s) Seawater impellar replacement Kohler

impellar.jpeg

I struggled for an hour trying to put new impellar in seawater pump today and then used a hose clamp to bend the blades around the hub enough to get started into pump housing. The keyway was still a bear to keep in place while inserting the impellar but some good light to line up impellar with key finally paid off. Have no idea how one would get impellar installed with pump on motor.

View the latest post C37

Yesterday, I went to the Cleveland Boat Show...which was REALLY busy. They finally had a new Carver there after being absent since 2009 or so. The model they had was a 2017 C37 with twin 6.2L Bravo 3 DTS Axxius engines...and was fully loaded. I was a little surprised when there was quite a long line to view this boat, as all the other boats in it's size/ class were walk on and look. Then I boarded and saw why. The boat is BEAUTIFUL!!!! It's the first of the new C series Carvers I had seen, and workmanship was impeccable and layout was perfect...it even had a "basement" with a stair to get down into it. I am so happy that Carver survived the collapse of the economy back in the B**h years. The really seem to have come back to what we all love about our own Carver yachts!

View the latest post Transmission Repair Started

The marina has finally pulled my boat inside to start the transmission repair. They brought the boat inside yesterday. I spoke with the mechanic yesterday. He said the way the boat is laid out he will have to pull both the engine and transmission in order to work on the transmission.

I asked him since he was working on the port tranny could he also replace the fluid in the starboard tranny. That way I will know that the fluid in both transmissions was replaced at the same time.

He said he will keep me abreast of the repair as it progresses. He expects that the repair will be under 2 K. I do hope so.

Now I can start thinking of spring launch with both transmissions in working condition.

View the latest post Boat vacuum

I have messy kids! What is your recommendation for a boat vacuum? I would like one small and powerful for dry messes.

Plug in or Battery (boat has a generator, but if mess happens on hook?)
Where do you store it?
What do you have?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Installing Flooring in Carver Mariner

I want to replace the carpet in the Salon of my Carver Mariner. I've seen lots of boats posted with "wood" flooring. My questions are..... Is it real wood, laminate or vinyl that looks like wood? Does the flooring hold up to the dampness of being on a boat? Is it nailed down or glued? What has worked? Thickness of flooring, I don't think you would want to put 3/4" hardwoods in?

Here are a couple of pics I found. I want to Salon and Galley to match, being that it's an open area.

View the latest post Shore Power question

2002 380 Santego. All year long when we would leave the boat at the marina. I would shut my battery switch off. A/C would stay running if I left it on, Refrigerator and freezer would stay on.

Well about 3 weeks ago I get to the boat and the smell about knocked me down. Freezer defrosted.
I didn't think too much about it thought we lost power at the marina that week. I noticed today that when I switch the battery to off I checked the fridge and sure enough its off. Check shore power and both mains are on. I switched power lines thinking that may be it but still the same. Check all breakers in the main and in the back cabinet everything is on
Am I dreaming or do I have a major electrical issue?

Shore power on battery switch off should the refrigerator stay on? I swear I have done this for a year and the fridge stayed on

View the latest post Carver 355 thru-hull replacement

I'm wondering if anyone has tackled the replacement of thru hull fittings on the starboard side, aft of a 355 Aftcabin MY and if so how did you accomplish it? I'm currently servicing the rudders and have access to see the 4 fittings. They are impossible to reach from inside, at least as I see it. When I bought the boat I was aware that they would need replacement but now I can see the difficulty in doing the job. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim Coll

View the latest post Looking at a 360 Aft - Thoughts?

Heading out to take a look at a 1988 36 Aft Cabin. Motors and generator have low hours, and it appears to have been very well maintained. Anything in particular we should be looking for/at with this particular model? Thanks!
