View the latest post Loss of power

I have a 2000 Voyager with the TAMD74's and for the past few weekends I cannot get above 1900RPM's. Changed all the filters, (fuel, air, racors) and still having the issue. Also getting a lot of soot from the starboard engine. I have read some post that other having the same issue and it was either air starvation, blocked turbo or turbo boost sensor. I understand how to check the turbo to make sure it's spinning freely but where is the boost sensor located? Thanks!

View the latest post Line Cutters

I'm curious as to how many folks have line cutters installed? I was looking at various types and it seems Spurs Cutters are the most recommended but also are really expensive. Prop Protectors are a disc-type cutter, and Great Loop members get a discount on those, so I was leaning towards that type

The boat is being hauled out for a bottom job soon so I was thinking about having some line cutters installed at that time.

Boat is a 1995 440 aft cabin with two engines with 2" diameter shafts. The Galveston area seems to have its share of crab pots, but I've also heard the northeast has them even worse. I'd like to avoid hitting them at all, but line cutters seem to be a little bit of extra protection just in case.

View the latest post Water in the fuel tank

So I woke up this morning after not spending a whole lot of time on my boat lately. I replaced the risers on the port engine yesterday then of coarse the boat won't start ! So I saw that the engine wasn't being primed with fuel. I decided to leave it for now , I knew it needed water in the tank so this morning at the Crack of dawn I stupidly decided to put some water in the tank. We'll like an idiot I put it in the fuel tank instead ! The tank was totally full of fuel so about 45 seconds later it came gushing out ! So the question is what do I do now!? Any suggestions would definitely help I don't know what I was thinking this is by far the dumbest thing I've done to myself with this boat ! Thank you for your help....

Hello all,
I have a 2001 CY396 with stiff shifter/throttle controls. Are these supposed to be electrically assisted?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Vacuflush

So it has begun. Finally got the vacuflush system out of our Carver. Where is was placed was so bad that my wife was the one who could crawl in and retrieve it. For sure the 4 duck-bills, just wondering about the bellows. Thoughts?

View the latest post Attachment(s) AC Water Manifold Project

We have the typical single AC pump supplying both AC units, but I'm pretty sure the manifold arrangement is not typical.

It's nice having the valves so we can service one unit while the other keeps running, and I was thinking of expanding on the system by adding some flush ports or a full setup to easily connect garden hoses for descaling as shown in these plans:
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/ ... sp=sharing
Here in central Florida I have to descale every 6 months to a year.

What I'm not a fan of is the schedule 40 PVC fittings in this application. I don't see Marelon fittings to reproduce what I'm trying to do, and a bronze setup would be very heavy and very expensive. I'm thinking of switching out the schedule 40 for schedule 80 PVC. Anyone have similar setups or ideas?

View the latest post Fresh Water Monitor Issue

Hello again. I have found that the water tank level sensor is not working this season. Does anyone know how to trouble shoot this? I guess it's prudent to confirm it's a sending unit issue or some other problem. Swapping out the sending unit looks like a pain because they have it buried under a bunch of cables. Before I go through that hassle it would be good to be sure that is the issue.
All advise appreciated.

View the latest post Engine oil choice

Bought some Mercury brand 25W50 synthetic blend engine oil for oil change. The container says high performance marine applications. My thought is, if this is formulated for HP engines, it should be even more effective with my Crusader 5.7 XL, and offer a high degree of lubrication. I run the engines at 3000 to 3100 RPM most of the time. Talked to a Mercury "certified" mechanic about that oil. His reaction was he would not recommend using this product because it is formulated for Mercury Verado engines only. He said something about an "impact" performance condition, that may negatively affect my Crusaders. Guess I can still exchange for a better suited product, but not convinced I should. VIPER - what do you think? 8-) er
