Looking to purchase a 530 or 570. Located in the PNW so location of boat is important to minimize transport costs. Prefer larger engines and hardtop.

View the latest post Volvo Penta 8.1 issue

Hello all. I purchased my first Carver, a 396 with Volvo Penta 8.1 GiL-E engines, about six months ago. Since then I've been having issues with the starboard engine.
Hard start-turns over, starts then quits. Does this 3-4 times then will idle.
Rough idle-not terrible but you can tell that it's not hitting on all cylinders.
Won't produce rated power - 3200 RPM is about all I can get out of it.
I typically do all the maintenance on the boat so I'm fairly mechanically inclined. Initially I though maybe one of the plugs was bad. Replaced them all, nothing looked odd. Swapped out all 8 coils & wires port to starboard. Compression test was 145-150 on all 8 cylinders. New fuel filter and water separator. Checked the anti-syphon valve - good. Fuel vent is good. Fuel pressure is 40 PSI at idle and 42 PSI under a load. I have the Rinda program and I'm not seeing any issues, no codes. All the systems that are monitored look very similar to the port engine. I had about 2-3 hours on the plugs before I pulled them for the compression check. They all seemed a bit wet so I was thinking something was causing the engine to run rich. I'm at a loss as to what to check next. Any ideas?

View the latest post Ray Marine 215 VHF Mic Cord

Happy New Year!!! The plastic/rubber on the mic cord has been falling apart for a few years. Making a mess every time you use it. Contacted Ray Marine and they used to redo these but no longer. After some research it seems this is a very common problem with the 215. I finally found Max Marine electronics and they now offer a new cord or a existing used mic with new cord. I opted for the new cord for $60 and it's a go! My problem was I would have had to replace the radio with a new one and with it build into the dash, would have made quite a project as the new radios are alot smaller. Now more slivers of plastic all over!

View the latest post Considering a 2000 506 with Volvo TMAD74s

Hello 506 owners, We were really set on a voyager as a move up boat from our Searay 44DB. I turns out that there is a 2000 506 at our marina, as a matter of fact it is occupying my slip while I look for a Voyager. Just for grins I took the wife to tour the 506 to compare to the Voyager and long story short, it looks like we may be buying the 506. It was not for sale but after speaking with the owner he has decided to sell it if we want it. I do all of my own service and repairs on my equipment and am wondering if there are any other 506 DIYers in the Sacramento / SF Bay Delta area to network with to learn the idiosyncrasies of the 506. This is a low our two owner boat originally from So Cal. Seems to be in really good shape but definitely not lovingly cared for in the bilge. I like to keep my ER and bilge as clean as my salon so If we move forward I will have my work cut our for me.
I'd appreciate any input as to how you with the 506s feel about them.
Thanks
Rusty Mayes

View the latest post cushion pattern for pop up table in dinette?

Hello, we just bought our 1984 32 Carver convertible and its great! We were folding down the dinette table in to a bed and the cushions did not seem to make sense, possibly somebody did a custom DIY. Does any body have the original dimensions for the Dinette cushions? They could use an upgrade anyways!

thanks,

View the latest post Attachment(s) New Carver owner

I’m buying a 1988 Carver 3607. It’s almost a local boat as it’s in Stockton and I am in Sacramento. Stockton is only about an hours drive down I-5 but it’ll be the entire day coming back on the Carver. Actually I’m planning on taking a few days at it and spending some quality time down in the Delta. I grew up water skiing and still have the 61 Chris-Craft Cavalier my parents bought new but this is my first big boat. My dad had a 1955 30 foot Owens with twin Grey Marine sixes many years ago. Hopefully I can take what I learned from driving that not wreck Heaven Scent. That’s the name of the 3607 I am buying and since I haven’t come up with a better name I guess I’m keeping it. I think she spent her entire life in freshwater undercover. At least that’s how she looks. I haven’t been this excited in a long time.
