Security camera on a boat

Postby SanJuanDreamer » March 4th, 2018, 10:43 pm

Well, here is a good example of how a security camera might be good...this didn't happen to me, just thought I'd share. http://komonews.com/news/local/police-n ... s-terminal

Thanks, gets me thinking I need to set up a hotspot/modem/cellular booster system. Will start another thread on this.

I have cameras on my boat for this reason and monitoring temps in the winter to make sure my heaters are working.

Wow that’s crazy hope they find him. I would love to have cameras on ours but our cheap marina does not have WiFi.

Makin Time, have you thought about adding a inexpensive cell phone with a hot spot to run ur camera's? May be an option in ur area.

I was thinking about that but I wonder how much data they chew up? I wonder if they use data even if not recording? I would love to do this but data is not cheap, so I don’t know if it’s worth it.

I'm currently looking at the Reolink Go cellular security camera to monitor my boat on my phone,https://reolink.com/lp/reolink-go/. Wonder if it will consume too much data. Waiting for the discounts after it is on Indiegogo Crowdfunding.

Looked at those but seems the Arlo system shown in the video would work just as well. Reason I say so is the Reolink although wireless, does require a cellular sim card in the camera so might as well set up a cell hotspot on the boat which brings much more flexibility. Also, the battery life is listed as being only 1-2 months in standby mode which means much less if any serious recording is done with the unit.
