Raymarine Axiom+ 12" MFD Heading Source

Postby jerryd5515 » September 19th, 2023, 5:22 pm

I am new to Carver, but not to Raymarine electronics. I have a new Axiom+ 12" MFD I just installed, that is connected to a SeaTalk converter with the NEMA 2K cable and a RayNet switch with a RayNet cable. The switch has three connections: Axiom 9" MFD, Axiom+ 12" MFD and Quantum Doppler radar. The SeaTalk converter has two connections: one from Axiom+ 12" MFD NEMA 2k cable and one from legacy Raymarine ST60+ Depth display. I receive and display the depth info fine on the Axion screen, but no Heading info is displayed. When I check the Data sources, it finds the SeaTalk converter for the depth, but nothing for Heading. On a Carver, is there a heading sensor that outputs heading data on a NEMA 2k or NEMA 0183 bus? If so, where is it located?

When I bought the boat, a 2005 Carver 41' CMY, it had one Axiom 9" MFD that only displayed basic chart info and a separate Raymarine ST60+ depth display. On a Sea Ray boat the heading data stream would come from a heading sensor under the dash.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about Axiom, but in past Raymarine systems there is a separate heading sensor, usually installed as part of an autopilot system.

Without autopilot, can a sensor like Raymarine's EV-1 provide the heading data stream?

Yes, per Raymarine's website the EV-1 can be used independent of an autopilot to provide heading data for your chartplotter and radar. https://www.raymarine.com/en-us/our-pro ... ensor-core
