Electric Hot Water Heater Anode

Postby Mikwallace » October 26th, 2023, 10:12 pm

After seeing what the Anode in my Genny looked like, I'm wondering if my Hot water heater has an Anode? Obviously I'm not on the boat and can't look. Which brings up another subject. Do the engines have anodes also?

Guess I'm sorta thinking out loud?? Just wondering what you guys have come across with these?

Thanks!

This should help clear up heater anodes. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3660&hilit=heater

Never seen them on raw water cooled engines however if you have closed cooling, there will be one in the heat exchanger.

There may be exceptions which Viper will hopefully clear up.
Cheers, Hans

Ya typically only fresh water cooled engines (coolant) will have anodes in the exchangers. Some oil coolers though in both raw water and fresh water cooled applications will have anodes too. Crusader's "U" cooler is a perfect example of that.

I looked over both engines and the hot water heater today and neither have an anode. Strange that the generator and engines have the same type cooling system yet the genny has an anode but neither engine does? I have another question about the master shower sump, but I’ll put that in a plumbing thread.

Thanks for all the info!

I replaced our water heater and found that there was no anode in it as received. It is a Kuuma. I had to order one. it was only about $20. cheap insurance.
