350 Mariner Air Conditioner Cooling issue

Postby Bryon857 » June 5th, 2018, 1:21 pm

I have a 2002 350 Mariner, I has a single ac 16000 btu unit under the fly bridge dash, above front bedroom. My question is, is this setup large enough to cool the whole boat? Mine does not seem to be able to keep up on a 80 plus degree day. Does anyone else have this problem or is my system going bad? I am considering a second 6000 btu unit, like Carver installed as an option. Just curious if anyone is cooling there 350 to satisfaction with a single 16000 btu?

Our 01 will take care of that just fine ( read meat locker )........check your ductwork up under the dash for rips/tears ( animals pick at that )....check your intake screens in the ceiling.....do you have good water flow ?...where are you located, water temp ? That is the easy stuff.....good luck man.

Always check the air filter, if there are any, and the evaporator coil. If the coil is plugged with dust and dirt, your unit will have very little capacity.
I.E, you will be hot.

Our 1998 with the 16,000 BTU cools and heats great for the whole boat. I agree with cleaning the coils and ceiling air intake ducts. My only complaint is the compressor is a bit noisy when kicking on.

Going to check coil tomorrow, I am sure it has never been cleaned. Thanks to everyone for advice.

It's amazing just how much better the unit will perform once the coils are cleaned. If the unit is in good working order a good coil cleaning can make a difference.

Clean the coils this weekend, much needed. I think will work better, this weekend in Northern Ohio never got over 75 no real test.
