MTI fume detector

Postby tonyiiiafl » May 13th, 2023, 7:22 pm

I installed an MTI Gasline fume detector for the bridge, and have a second for the salon. I wanted to replace teh salon one into the electrical panel, but that means removing teh fridge. THAT is not happening! So I ran the wire up to the bridge in teh wire chase and under the console. However, it is about 7’ short. Whatta ya think of cutting it and extending it with the proper 18 Gauge wire from say West Marine?

That electric panel is pretty sealed. It is in an aluminum case, all wire clampsd so there was no snaking another wire in there.

I don't think there's any issue with extending the wire, especially for just that short of a distance.

The one I had was a three-wire cable (12v, gnd, and 'sensor'), but it looks like this model uses a four-wire cable. Wonder what the extra wire is used for?

Should be ok, just try to stick with the approximate gage of their wire so you get all the strands connected......tin them first for sure......

Oh I forgot, check to see if they are using shielded wire cable....
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Not shielded, just 22 gauge, I ordered some of that.

Thank you
