Navi lights not working now.

Postby RickieT » February 16th, 2018, 2:09 pm

Hi All,

Trying to troubleshoot my navi lights on bow and white light up top on arch not turning on. Neither are turning on and my bridge lights and instrument lights all work fine. Can't imagine all 3 bulbs went out at the same time...checked to make sure it was turned on in the panel below the TV in the salon and it's on. Are there fuses some where I can look to see if that's the issue? I have a 1997 350 Mariner...

Many thanks!

Rick

If the fuse/breaker check out, test your switch and the fixtures themselves for corrosion. Considering you're a salt water application, this would be a common issue.

Rickie; Not real sure, but I would assume there is a separate set of 12 volt breakers located on the bridge, may be up under the helm. Look for a panel that is screwed on under there. Most generally anything that is operated from the bridge has a separate breaker panel or breakers. Check for power going into the switch first. If power is going in and nothing is coming out the switch may be bad.

I always look at the breaker first, then pull a cover off one of the lights and check for voltage. Its amazing what just a bit of corrosion and vibration will do especially on the older light fixtures. One day they work, the next they don't.
If you have voltage at the fixture, use a piece of steel wool or fine sandpaper and polish the contacts and the end of the bulbs (if the bulbs are good). Also carefully bend to contacts in a bit to keep more pressure on the bulb. A tiny bit of dielectric grease can help prolong the maintenance intervals.

As mentioned above...mine gave me grief because of corrosion.
Cleaned them up and spread very little dielectric grease on the ends.
Once she's out of the shop, I'm replacing the anchor lights with LED bulbs.
