The genny feeds exclusively from this small 50 gallon tank.
The tank is also fitted so either or both engines could pull from it.

Good to know Fred. I don't recall this tank. So one would assume/hope that there are only three pick-ups in that tank, that two are currently being used for the main engines, and that the one left/not being used would be a specific generator pick-up. If there is more than one not being used, you need to find out which is designed for the generator. Having said that, some tanks will have tubes installed in all ports whether they're being used or not, while others only have tubes installed in the ports needed during the initial boat build based on the options ordered.

Will this tank be there and engines hooked up even if the generator option wasn't installed at factory?

Well its confirmed, no tank starboard rear so this boat didn't come with a genset. Still very interested so flying up to look at it this Thursday!

Anyone know of a Mariner 3697 for sale closer to the South East?
Thanks,
Ben in SC

You should still be able to hook up to one of the main tanks.

You should arrange to have it surveyed if it passes your initial wants and needs.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

I think prior to the 90's, a genset wasn't considered a real high priority on boats less than 45' or so. Mine is an '83 36' and didn't come with one either.

Well guys, I bought the boat. Should have her delivered within the next two weeks! Spent the day yesterday crawling all over and in her and it made me appreciate this model even more. Have to LOVE a boat, right?

Fred, the next time you're in the engine bay would you mind taking pictures of:

How the gen is mounted and to what?
How the wiring is ran forward towards the elec panel.

It's mounted on a piece of plywood spanning the stringers

The exhaust exits under the platform

If I were to redo this, the plywood eould be completly sealed in resin and fiberglass.

The battery is forward of the genny; very hard to get to. One project this winter is to move it aft of the muffler

The ac line from the genny runs along the forward wall of the engine room to the starboard side, under the boats power inlet. Inside the cabin, in theaft starboard seat area is this little compartment that houses the automatic switch between shore and genny power.

Another bite from the center of the engine room.
You can also see the strainer from the sea cock aft of the genny muffler
