Aft Deck Speaker Installation

Postby mjk1040 » October 9th, 2018, 9:19 pm

The aft deck hard top has 2-4" access panels and I was wondering if any one has found any good 4" speakers that will fit into these already existing openings and if so were you able to run speaker wire to the bridge to tap into the speakers there or did you go to the aft cabin speaker(s) and was it a PITA or an easy speaker run, possible winter project!

Mike, I put 6 1/2" speakers on the sides above the stairs to the bridge and above the cabin door. Plenty of room and great bass from the open cavity.
I put a Kicker KMC10 in the brige dash and a Kicker 800 watt amp 5 channel amp inside the helm enclosure. I also added a Kicker 10" sub into the helm enclosure along with kicker 6.5"s up front in the original speaker location. Sounds great. Can hear loud and clear at any cruising speed.

4" speakers used to be junk, but recent improvements make them a viable choice. You will probably need a 4" woofer and separate tweeter, like a 3/4" tweeter, to get decent sound. I heard a great set of speakers recently that used 10 separate 4" speakers in an array to produce some pretty spectacular sound!

Here's some advice - call the folks at Parts Express - they have some real experts there that can answer your questions and help you select some nice components that don't cost an arm and leg. I've used them for several specialty applications and their advice was right on. Check them out at: https://www.parts-express.com/cat/cross ... onents/21#! Phone number is (800) 338-0531. A phone call might get you some good info and save you some money.

I have no speakers at the aft deck either and was considering installing some. Problem is the wiring is a pain, you need to drill 2 really big holes in the fibreglass and how do you control the channels/volume? In my case another wired remote would be required. Only have 3 zones available on my Fusion radio and all are already taken.

Swim time anchored during the day is when we use the transom area so not all that often. Found this unit and tried it out, holy moly does it sound great. Stream all the music from apple music through my iPhone not to mention no installation, portability and a remote (phone) at my finger tips. Worked out great for me.

Yes Hans, I was going to suggest some sort of bluetooth speaker to solve a messy job of installing speakers just for that odd time that you need music. On ours there are speakers on the aft deck, but, if there wasn't, I would have gotten a really good bluetooth speaker such as the one you got.Makes alot more sense.

Parts Express has the Bluetooth as well - some are cordless with an internal battery - some need external power - go from a little money to a lot more: https://www.parts-express.com/search.as ... PortalID=1
