Bud37, I do not see the ground wire and my engineer friend also expressed concern about one missing. I will take close up pics of the solenoid next time showing wires.

You have a bigger unit than the one I have therefore perhaps not exactly the same, but I think if you follow the ground ( black cable from the battery negative) back to the generator you will see if there are any connections, corrosion etc and how it is grounded to double check as that area under the unit can be fairly dirty.

Just cross the simple no cost things off the list first.
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

If you can crank it by jumping the solenoid than probably not the ground or the solenoid! But still worth cking and cleaning. I'm going with bad relay under the black box, and or maybe just dirty connections at the relay....
Good luck !!!!

I think I got taken by this tech guy. H charges almost 7K but got the genny going. replaced entire fuel system, eelctricals, and electronics except the engine (meaning he didnt know shit and swapped everything for new). I basically had to pay 7K to get my gas genny back from him. at least it works now.

Update 12/1/2020 - sold the carver. Bought a 65' 2003 Viking. Big upgrade :)

YIKES! Yes, I think that tech guy needs a lesson in troubleshooting!! Aside from the control board, they are not very complicated.

Congrats on the Viking!! Those are nice boats! (er, SHIPS!)
