A Good Find - rope lights

Postby Mikwallace » November 6th, 2022, 3:14 pm

While replacing all 3 of my Carbon Monoxide Alarms today (I believe the old ones were OEM Alarms) I found a toggle switch inside the front birth closet. Picture below (the picture should be rotated 90* CCW):

It took turning out all the lights and being in total darkness before the reason for the switch illuminated! There’s a rope light under the front birth bed! Picture below:

Maybe its like the C&W song “Pickup Man”, perhaps it puts off a “Romantic Glow”!!??

Good find. I replaced all my OEM rope lights with LED strips. They work great, are much cooler and draw less current.

This is almost a year old thread. When I found the rope lights under the front berth bed last Nov, it never crossed my mind to check the master stateroom bed; and yep, while chasing wires today I found them in the master. They didn’t work but I fixed them and now they’re working, will probably replace them with LED’s as mentioned by Viper.

It's kind of weird to see the hidden switch as I suspect the rope lights are OEM but I've always seen them controlled by regular wall switches next to the main ceiling light switches, at least that's how mine are in the aft and fwd berths, and on other boats I've seen.
