Carver 3607 New engine

Postby MakinTime » January 7th, 2017, 10:05 am

Hello new to this forum just thought I would share my experience this last summer of putting a new port side engine in my Carver 3607. We had only owned her for 2 weeks until water got into the cylinder from a rusted hole in the exhaust manifold and hydro locked the motor. I bought a long block from Promar engine and of course new exhaust manifolds, risers, and elbows for both engines. The process went very smooth, I built a custom hoist to get into the cabin and lift and roll the motor out of the hole. Also built a 3/4 plywood floor with bracing underneath to hold the wait of the big block and transmission. I bought a jegs racing engine cart to bolt the motor onto and wheeled it up the ramp to the aft deck then had it taken out from there. I attached some pictures to see how we made this happen in our slip:).

Ingenious, got to archive this post for any, hopefully never, future need! It appears like 3/4" plywood, if you could, take a picture of the hoist you made. Mike PS>BRAVO!

Thanks guys, yes it is 3/4 plywood seemed to work well and the hoist rolled on it very nicely. Here are some pics of the hoist.. I used used 2X4 1/8" steel tubing and made the top beam bolt together to get it down in the cabin probably overbuilt a bit but it did not flex a bit with motor/tranny on it.
