Wish I knew how many times I am asked what is the water temp before we go swimming. Problem is I need to power up the depth sounder and the chart plotter not to mention power them down when done. Came across this rather inexpensive oled unit that is easy to install and discrete. I will mount in the transom doors where my shore power is located as this is right beside the door leading to the swim platform. Pretty easy to install and with a small momentary push button located beside it, just push to get the temp reading. Again this comes from the reverse side of the world so it will be late summer before I report back. That's a pretty good deal.I have been using a temperature scan gun for a couple years now.

Though about that however that would only register surface temp then again a foot or two down is probably not much different. Nice alternative with no install required.

Sticking my toe in the water works OK for me but a good device is better. When I was younger before I would go swimming I kind of liked the water temp to be at least 67* before I dove in. Now 70* seems much better.

Just an update. I did receive the unit and powered it up, looks great and works great however, the sensor wire is rather short so you need to extend it for most applications. Not too keen on the supplied round sensor/wire as it is difficult to mount on our boats and the wire used (similar to speaker wire) is difficult to seal properly unless you don't mind a wad of sealant.

I ordered this sensor/wire which I have received and can confirm it works perfectly with the unit. Wire is about 30' long so suitable for almost any application and round which is easy to seal. The unit is marine tuff stainless and designed to be transom mounted made by Airmar that supplies most transducers and sensors for most all brands of marine electronics. 70 degrees? Brrrrrrr! Lake Norman is mid-80s now. Very nice! I guess latitude makes a difference...

That is the same temperature as our urinal. It's supposed to be refreshing, not a hot tub.

80* is getting warm. That is about as warm of water I would want to swim in. Any warmer would be to warm for me. I have swam in Lake Superior and the Atlantic Ocean in Massachusetts. Those two places do not know warm waters.
