Thanks everyone. I've been workin' hard this spring. I'll start a new thread with those so I don't hijack 650guy's thread too much. I will say the carpet isn't too difficult, just a strong staple gun and a lot of sharp razors!

That looks great. I did the same thing with making a pattern, even using the same paper and tape. I still have the pattern from the first time I did the carpet, and I'm getting ready to do it again so I'm going to use the pattern again.

The very first time I did a boat carpet all I had was a manual stapler. My hand hurt for a month. When I did it the last time I had purchased an electric and I LOVED that process. Seemed to jam more but I also might have put in 5x more staples!

There are hatches thats a lipped rug in the same carpet over the top of the main carpet to protect it but not be too obviously a rug :-D
