And if you wanted to try this, here's all the tools I used to get this far
Headlight
Drill bits and drill
Screwdrivers.
Blow gun
Thin grinder wheel had to make a slot for a screwdriver to get one of the screws out
Hammer
Awl
And block of wood to drive the trim off the screw shanks

I have a lot of that same trim on my Carver. Been giving a lot of thought to taking it off and replacing the tops (mostly black formica) with something like Corian. I would be eliminating the edge trim. For the dinette table I think this would be a plus, as I really hate that raised edge when I'm working on a laptop on that table. However on some of the other surface I wonder if that wouldn't be a problem removing the trim as then there'd be no 'edge' to stop stuff from sliding off. I notice a lot of newer vessels don't use those edges anymore.... do you guys have trouble with stuff sliding off surfaces??

I'm surprised those joints aren't doweled. The few I've taken off on the bridge on mine were, but I haven't taken any apart inside the boat.

On all the other surfaces I cut that edge off and topped it with granite.
But I need to move that table to get to the v drive, so no granite there.
Thanks

Good stuff, Fred......some of the boat makers back when used an odd brass wood trim screw called a Frearson head , looks like a philips but has a different bit.....the heads would strip easy if you used the wrong bit.

Did you come across any of those ?
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

The only trouble I had was the glue filled the slots.
And it was on only one side of the table.
The rest off the heads were clear and once I removed all the plug pieces, they unscrew easily.
Thanks

I can post some next weekend.
Somewhere in my photobucket's mariner folder shows what she's did the first time. When we got the boat, it had been outside for ten years unused. She made everything from scratch.
Thanks

I remember those but haven't seen them used on any builds after the mid '70s. That's not to say they weren't used after that time, but I've done a lot of woodwork on early Chris Crafts and Trojans and after that vintage I don't recall coming across them anymore. Probably for ease of production, it's way easier and faster to handle Philips screws. You can mount a Philips screw on a bit much faster than a Frearson. When you're talking hundreds or thousands of screws in a build, seconds add up.

No update this weekend.
It snowed for at last six hours yesterday here in SW Michigan.
Today got up to about 45f.
Hopefully next weekend.
Thanks
