New Inverter/House Bank

Postby vineyardgray » September 27th, 2019, 7:04 pm

Hi everyone!

I have been busy for a few weeks on and off installing a new house bank in the 3867 Santego (just in time for winter storage  )

I chose Firefly Oasis 4v 450ah L16 style batteries for the house bank. Since the boat is 12v, the 4v will produce 12v once wired in series and maintain the 450ah of each battery. These are ly 100lb a piece so I am slightly worried about creating a list - even more so considering the inverter/charger will also go on the same side.

The previous charger was faulty and wired with the wrong gauge wire so the two start/house banks were chronically under-charged and thus all the batteries onboard with exception of the generator battery are cooked.

I don't like the idea of my house loads and my start loads coming from the same batteries, and the faulty charger and fried batteries have forced my hand.

I will keep posting as I slowly make progress.

Cheers

Matt

I'm with you on that one. Keeping the loads isolated and on their own bank is the best way to go.

Where are you locating your inverter? I trust you're not putting it in your engine compartment unless you have an ignition proof unit.

Keep us posted on your project.

Is that your house/deep cycle bank, and is that the bank that will power up your inverter? If so, what is the rated output of the inverter?

The inverter/charger is a Victron Multiplus - 120a charge, 3000watt invert.

Nice equipment....someone has been spending here I see.... :-D
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

Here's the home in which the charger/inverter will live. Fortunately, there is a lot of space in there. Unfortunately there is no bloody way I will fit in order to do the work. A two door cupboard door solution is being hatched in my minds eye:
