Thanks for the reply. I called it wallpaper but I don' really know what it is. It looks like some type of fabric. I'll go to the boat later and take a picture.

I removed original wallpaper in a 2000 sq. ft. house I bought 7 years ago. The surface hadn't been primed and the removal was awful. I ended up skim coating most of the walls and then primed. Thank god my wife decided to paint instead of papering. That's all I know about the process so far.
