Agreed, a 3000+ watt unit almost needs welding cable and a 300a fuse. Just not practical and a full install is gonna cost more than gas money for the year.

If it just for the ice maker then a small 400w unit dedicate to it is the best solution which could also be used to plug in other smaller stuff. You also spoke about the small induction stove, maybe a small stow away butane unit would be the best answer for the few times you will fire her up as opposed to a big inverter. Something like this. Actually had one like this on previous boats when I had no generator, heats wickedly fast FYI.

I do have a Coleman propane stove, been like 30 years I have this, also the Coleman percolator for the stove. I guess I'm getting overwhelmed with all the choices. Renogy seems to have a great rep while the new Victron seems, according to the forums, have cheapened out a lot.

Ya typically in a large inverter install, the cost of the install/supporting hardware ends up being more expensive than the inverter if you do it right. Even with a large inverter tapped into the main panel, I still wouldn't use it for large loads. The main panel hook up is for convenience more than anything in my books. Running large loads for extended periods means huge battery banks, bigger charging systems, more weight, more initial expense, etc.

When on the hook, we sync our large loads around the times we run the genny which is usually about 3 time a day; morning, mid afternoon, evening. That's when we'll run the charger, hot water heater, stove if needed, etc. For the most part though, when on the hook, we plan meals around the BBQ and rarely use the stove, why heat up the cabin even more! We rarely use the AC on the hook, if it gets too hot, I jump in the water, which is where we spend most of our day anyway. Can't wait ;-)

The butane stove is very compact and easy to store in comparison to a propane one. Just sayin.

Something like this should be more than sufficient to run your ice maker. Anything with a compressor sees a peak draw when the compressor kicks in and this unit is rated at 600w peak/300w continuous. Worse case is you return it and you are out maybe the shipping costs. I would definitely give it a whirl. https://www.amazon.ca/300Watt-Inverter-120volt-Converter-Smartphones/dp/B07PM1BQT7/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=400w%2Bpure%2Bsine%2Binverter&qid=1620914368&sr=8-6&th=1

I think you meant jump on the boat in the river. This time of year the noodle will shrink to a minimalistic size in the river. Heck, it may even invert :-D

So…. Taking everyone’s input which was very much appreciated, I took the fundamentals of everything and went with a more permanent install. Renogy pure sine wave inverter with a controller. Done!

Yes, I paid for Marinco/ Park Power 07200 Inverter 2000W 12V marine power inverter and I get that. It's easy to install and works great! The transition from shore power or generator to the inverter is undetectable.
