I've seen the garden lights on boats, cheesy at best. Not so sure of the strobe effect if it will deter the bugs. IF it does, I got to do this too. Damm, in the mornings!!!!!! Whoooooooo, what a mess.

Yep I'm always on my hardtop rinsing it down after spending the night. I was wondering how this blinking light solution has been working

No concerns with compliance? I wonder if that violates any rule for anchoring requirements. Just thinking about safety. Will it be obvious to others that the flashing is a boat and not something else?

The main concern about an anchor light is visibility. If your light is bright, does not have a lens that is so clouded over to block light then you are better off than the vast majority. What I see at anchorages is pitiful to say the least, barely visible up close and a third of boats do not even use it. The blinking aspect adds visibility if you ask me. Is it compliant? I doubt it but it improves visibility and does not attract bugs. The module is completely adjustable so turning the blink timing on or off is rather easy.

Why not replace your anchor light bulb with the RV anti bug bulb? Then you don't have to reinvent the wheel. Make one anchor light pole your anti bug one and the other a regular one in case law enforcement doesn't like your out of the box idea.

I have yet to see a light that does not attract bugs. Yes there are lights that are marketed as such but never seen one that actually works. Even if there was such a thing, the color would be non compliant as the rules state it must be white. We have been on the hook for about a week now with no bugs issues from the anchor light.

There is a small sailboat anchored close to me who I believe is using a firefly in a mason jar as an anchor light. :-D

If you are tied to shore ( backed in ) do you need a light on anyway that close ?
The above is strictly my opinion always based on years of doing...remember to support local business , it pays back.

Last time I tied to shore was maybe 10 years ago but your right, in that case I would not use it. Technically I believe you are supposed to use it though.
