Hello. I am a new member of this forum. I used to own a 1988 Carver 28' Voyager. I sold it to go with something smaller and went too small. I now am looking at 1995 Carver mid cabin with a Volvo Penta 7.4 in it. Anyone know this boat. How well does it plane and run with this engine? Thank you.

I forgot to include that the boat I'm looking at is a 250 mid cabin express. Thanks

Can't help you with your questions, but welcome aboard.
Also, please get a surveyor to inspect the boat. Money well spent.
Thanks

I have been wanting to go look at a 1995 Carver 250 mid cabin that the owner said he could still show although boat is now in dry stack storage. Problem is is that the boat is on the second rack and can not be taken down till April. I don't think management will let me climb up there to have a look.

It's amazing that no one has any comments on this boat, Perhaps no one cares for it and they are just being polite. Thank you.

I'm going to guess that Carver didn't sell a lot of the 250 model. It's likely that no one on this forum has experience with it. Questions of a more general nature will garner several responses but model specific.. not so much. Any thing you learn about this boat/model please share.

I was going to suggest something similar to your post Aaron, I have never heard of the 250 model. A quick search of Yachtworld only returned 2 that are currently for sale in North America. You may want to open your search to other builders or perhaps go up a size.

The 250 Mid-Cabin Express came out in 1994. It is similar to (and no doubt built to compete with) SeaRay models of about the same size, like the SeaRay Sundancer 280. Note the Carver is measured at the waterline, and the SeaRay is overall, so the 250 Carver is basically the same overall length as a SeaRay 280 . Upper helm, step-down cabin, with galley to the port and a combo head/shower to starboard. It has the mid-cabin "double" berth that goes up under the helm with the little hatch in the back. Beam is 8.5' which makes it the most narrow of the Carvers, but has an appropriate 3:1 length/beam ratio. Power was from a single small block or big block outdrive, Mercruiser or Volvo - the most desirable would probably be the Volvo Duoprop option - boat is too narrow for twins. Euro-style transom with integrated swim platform. Note this boat is trailerable, at 6,100 lbs, you could pull it behind a good-sized SUV or pickup. If you have spent time on a SeaRay 280, you know what the 250 Mid-Cabin Express is like. The next model up is the 280 mid-cabin - which is a much bigger feeling boat.

Hope this helps - good luck with your search!

Thanks everyone. I really like this boat. I am 6'3" and can stand up in the cabin at the foot of the stairs. I put money down on one and rest do after successful sea trail. Boat is in nice condition with a Volvo Penta 7.4 engine with duo prop. Canvas is nice but will need new snap in cockpit carpet and helm seat back will need redone as it has a small tear in it. It also come with AC and heat and an excellent maintenance record.

Sounds great. Hope the sea trial goes well and you are out and about on the waterways soon. Best of luck.
