1999 Carver 356 new owner

Postby Hunt_trex » March 22nd, 2016, 2:19 pm

Hello everyone,
We took possession of the 356 last Saturday. Still poring through manuals and figuring out the systems. The previous owner kept wonderful records and was the first owner.

We thinking of naming the boat Vader. Since we have been sailors for over 20 years our sailing friends think we have gone to the Dark Side.
My wife is worried the name will offend pure motor boaters, but I tell her it is a conversion starter.
What does the forum think?

Look forward to collaborating with everyone.

Ted
Huntsville, AL
Vader currently at Lake Pickwick state park.

Welcome aboard and congrats on your purchase of a fine boat!

I don;t think anyone will be offended by your choice of name, I rather like it. Boat name purists are free to buy their own boats and name them as they choose:)

That's a great name! Just be sure to do all the rituals when renaming your boat :)

Welcome over to the "Dark Side". One advantage to the dark side is you generally will get to where you are going a bit quicker. It won't be as quiet and peaceful but the end result is the same.

As to the name of your boat, it is a personal choice. I personally see nothing offensive with your choice.

I was lucky too last year when I purchased my 81 3007 Aft Cabin model. Much of the paperwork and documentation came with the boat. I am the 3rd owner and my limited time last season was for the most part very enjoyable.

Hope you have a great season with your new to you 356.

If you have been boating for all these years I am sure you have seen your fair share of names that cause one to scratch our heads in confusion.
Name your boat, enjoy the name, I think it is great. Probably a better choice than "Death Star" ;-) .
Welcome to the community. You have come to the correct place for all things Carver

Any chance your wife is named Ellie? Then you could name it "Ellie Vader" There is a pretty neat website out there with 10,000 boat names - take a look: http://10000boatnames.com

Never worry about the Purists. My 280 Cruiser Inc was 'Nautiville', My SeaDoo jet 180 was' Nautitown', and the Bigger Carver 360 is 'More Nautiville'. (all based on a house I once lived in that a girlfriend named Lumpyville due to the condition of the mattress.) We have a boat on our dock that the young fellow named it '@fatbadger'. (some twitter, twadder something or other)

Alright... one nod to the purists. You do want a name that is usable over the radio. You may have to, especially in an emergency, and you don't want to be stupid in that instance, but Vader would be fine, and besides, I can imagine a nice graphic with a bobble head Vader piloting your boat!

It's your boat. Let it make you happy. Smile when you look at it and explain it to others, but be sure to have a ceremony, involve your dock mates, and do it up right!
