89 Carver 3607 Portlight Replacement (all)

Postby PaulB » January 27th, 2017, 5:56 pm

My wife and I are Carver fanatics, this being our second one and we love her. One of our projects for next summer is replacement of the 10 original port lights, several of which are leaking badly. My questions is this: Is there anyone out there that has done this and kept the hull cutout size for the port lights? This would sure prove useful. I'm ordering the port lights from Bomar Pompanette and believe they may have manufactured the original ones used by Carver.

The originals were made by Bomar...they are the Grey (Gray) series of portlights. You will need the dimensions of the existing ones to order replacements, and they should fit exactly, so no cutting should be necessary. Also, if the frames are okay, and just the lenses (windows) are cracked or broken, you can get just that portion of them in either clear or smoke tint.

Why not just replace the gasket? If they are not cracked, I can't see changing them. I replaced the gaskets on my Silverton 42C for exactly the same reasons you are.

Paul; our neighbor replaced all of his port widows in his '86 aft cabin and if I remember right he had to re-drill the mounting screw holes. The new ones were the same size however. If u can, I'd go with Lyndon's suggestion and replace the gaskets. Mike

Goggle it, there must be multiple suppliers, Bomar is the brand name I do believe. Mike

Can anyone tell me where I can get the plastic lenses only for the Gray series (1987 Carver 3607) I found a size chart on line once, but can't locate it again.

Pompanette used to have them. If you get the actual part number, do some searches on the Internet. There are other retailers that will sell them less than list price. If you buy direct from Pompanette you'll pay list. Same lense and comes from same place, just the discount from list price.
