Looking at 50' Carver CPMY

Postby Living Water » January 14th, 2018, 2:02 pm

Looking at a 1996 located in florida. Boat has been sitting in the water for a year without care, divers or zincs. Could the bottom possibly be ruined? Could the thru-hulls be ruined? Props?, Shafts?.....what else would be a concern?

You'll find out when you get a full survey before you buy it.
The condition of the underwater gear depends quite a bit on the surrounding conditions. You won't know until you pull it out our have a diver go below.
Could be bad, but heck, the boat is still floating!
Thanks

Welcome aboard. Ya can't stress enough the need to get a survey done first. It'll reveal things that need attention and may affect your ability to enjoy her right away, and an idea of what you're in for before you can. You'll need it for insurance anyway, and if any expensive deficiencies are found, you can use it as a negotiating tool. Just make sure you get a certified surveyor that is independent of the seller or marina if it's kept at one. Might be a good idea to have a certified tech look at the power plants too. Problems with those and structural concerns can put quite a dent in your wallet. Everything is fixable, you just need to know what needs to be done and whether that is reflected in the purchase price.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

thanks for the reply. It is being surveyed tomorrow and pulled out for a bottom inspection. I have had a boat here in florida for 25 years but never neglected the bottom.
