Fuel consumption rates.

Postby David M. » September 24th, 2018, 9:40 pm

Hello all. I am a new owner of a used Carver. I recently purchased a 2000 Carver 45 Voyager with 480 Volvo Penta's. I am trying to get a feel for my fuel consumption rates at 9-10 mph vrs 20-21 mph. Any ideas?

Welcome Aboard. Unfortunately I cannot answer your question but someone here with the same setup will be able to give you some accurate information.

Welcome, I also cannot say the rate, I like to know what my cost is per hour doing the type of cruising I'm doing. I'm at 27$ an hour with 2 x 8.1 Gi gas engines.

It appears as though I have found my answer in the Volvo Penta flow chart. (Approx 3.5 gph at 1100 rpm and apprx 16 gph at 2200 rpm.) x 2.

Should change you name to Puttmyster. :-D Seriously, I am also in the 1200-1300rpm bracket most of the time but I can get up and go if needed. Got her up to 51kph or about 31.7 mph but I think that is about the best I will see unless I rework the props as I am underpropped by 300 rpm but cannot see why I would spend the money on something I will never use. Rather have the engines less loaded IMHO. Cruises at 26mph al day long if needed in the current configuration. :captain2:

Puttmyster? Nice one. Never thought of that for a name. With was also, when needed, the 25 mph is easily do-able, but the fuel!!!!! It is nice the get on plane with these boats, great feeling.
