Looking at the model 396.

Postby Cigarjim » December 19th, 2018, 8:45 pm

I need to find out the true overall length. I’m in a 40’ slip and my marina is very strict about hanging out past the pier. I would also like any feedback on this model. Cruising speed, handling in real life conditions on Lake Michigan.

My 355 is a bit over 41' LOA, pretty sure the 396 is at least the same. The Carver website should have the specs.

Welcome Aboard. I would think that that vessel is definitely over 40' in length. I have a 3007 Aft Cabin that measures 34' 4" overall. It's marketed as a 30' boat.

LOA w/swim platform is 40' 7" Beam is 13' 11". Measure your slip for accurate length. Our marina has 2 ft added to each slip length, due to supporting structure of the slip. Let us know the year and power/drive specs for better feedback on performance. Welcome to the forum! 8-) er

The 355 is 41.2' over all. I pretty sure the 356 is the same. Coupler here in NY for sale just under $90K. A 1998 355 and a 2000 356! And another 356 for $99K its a 2001. I'm looking to go CP/MY or something express. Tired of the bridge issues during high water.

Yep. Both those models have the extended bow pulpit. The 396 does not have that same design. Anchor bracket is bolted to the bow. Not as easy to do the Titanic pose, but more efficient when considering slip space. 8-) er

Can the bow overhang the end of the slip at all (not into the fairway, but the walkway or parking end)?

Pier 33, right? They won't let you hang the bow over the wall either.
In the summer look me up - you'll pass my place as you go to Pier 33. We're on the east side of the island.
Thanks

My 2003 356 is 41’2” LOA with a 13’3” beam according to the the delivery sheet. Hope I don’t offend anyone but I bought mine in October this year for $82K. 187 hours on the motors, every option was order except the sun pads and is in perfect condition. Survey came back above average. Not bragging just hoping to help out.
Thank you for the help!

No worries Sadey. Not offending anyone. If a seller really wants to sell, they know asking & selling are different. The market this past couple of years took some lumps with the number of hurricane boats being refurbished and sold at less than average price. You did well, good for you. Those hours are amazing. If you don't mind, and you do not have to answer, what did the surveyor peg it at? It is much more of a buyers market in the Midwest for boats this size.
