New to us...El Grande Chancho... 3607aft

Postby kamakazerc » March 17th, 2019, 6:34 pm

[image][/image]Well, hi all. And here is our story. In August, we perchaces a 1988 3607. Absolutely love it! Well, my wife and I, have had a long battle through raising our family that she would get absolutely get a cottage, before I ever got a boat. So, as time went on and we were never really financially willing to pop for a cottage, she finally admitted one day at dinner, that owning a boat may be cool. So of course, so starts our journey! So any way we started with a wellcraft airslot 24 fixer upper, to break us in as boat owners. I didnt tell her I bought it till it was almost ready for the water. She was surprisingly pleased, so we named her "Debbies Wrong" ...get it? That was a great experience. Than, as we were talking over dinner again, she saw a Carver Mariner, 2897, putting down the Saint Clair river, and said, that's what I would like if we ever went bigger.... So of course, I found and bought one as soon as the right deal came up. Then named it , "Debbies Waive" hence, she waived her rights to a cottage.. lol...3 years of loving our first twin engine cabin cruiser. !!!.
Then she stepped into a neighbors 3607, and oh my, that's all she could talk about !!!!! A master state room, two heads, and so on. Well, you can guess what happens next!
We shopped for a year and a half, and then.... eureka.... we found just the one we wanted and for a great price. Hence , no help from the unhelpful broker, but that's another story ! So we grit our teeth and made the deal.
Then threw cashion to the wind,. We bought it in Milwaukee. It hadn't seen water in 2 1/2 years. Look it over throughly. Splashed it. Of course I am a life long mechanical technician, so I had confidence in my inspection,,, and sailed it all the way home to Au Gres MI, which is a 560 mi trip to the east side of Mi. SO MUCH FUN !!!! And only had one small issue with the steering.
Of course the steering went out while I was in 10 ft swells, along the west coast of mi. That was interesting. But that beast of a boat , handled it extremely well, and steering with the engines was interesting, but surprisingly capable !!!.
One of the coolest parts of the trip, was going under the Mackinaw bridge at dusk, and traveling about 75 more miles in the beautiful star lit clear night sky , untill we had to hail a port till morning for fuel.
So... there our story. Can't wait till the splashing , in a couple months. And may all your hulls stay wonderfully afloat.
Regards to all.. from new owners of..."El Grande Chancho".
PS.. Keeping the name from prev owners, just because its fun!
Look up the translation...lol.
