First Carver - 1990 Santego 3867

Postby Fully_Vetted » June 29th, 2020, 3:02 pm

Aloha!
Corvette enthusiast that is joining the nautical world to escape the insanity of landlovers and their far out agendas.

My husband probably thinks im on my 4th mid-life crisis at the ripe age of 34, but im really just searching for his next tinker project. He is an aeronautical engineer and from my boating childhood, I knew this purchase is the gift that keeps on giving, aka money pit. We will never run out of things to work on with this project.

If anyone out there has experience with this particular model and any quirks, ill appreciate any lifelines.

Depending on which Corvette you have and which engines are in the boat - you may find they look a LOT alike!

Welcome aboard and feel free to ask questions for whatever surprises you have! :drunk:

Welcome Aboard from another Corvette enthusiast (Red C3- All Real corvettes are red don't you know... :-D ) and a fellow Santego 3867 owner. Just let me know if you have any specific questions and I will try to help out. I suppose they all do have quirks, just never thought about it...It's a boat - a hole in the water your pour money into!

Welcome aboard.
I've had three Carvers.

A 1988 2807 Riviera, bought brand new. What a nice boat. Twin 305s gave it plenty of power, hi freeboard, drove staright as an arrow. Only thing I would have done differently was get a hard top.

Then a 1989 4207. Big block gas engines. A complete dog. Ok in calm weather. But could not keep out of its way in any big weather. I had the pleasure of piloting one re-powered with 500hp Cats. That was a real boat. With gas engines, an absolutely fine dock queen condo on the water.

I bought a high performance boat after the 4207. I was so sick of the lack of power. I guess I went overboard. Wife does not like go-fast, so we found a project 3697. It's actually a great boat. Enough power with twin 350hp Crusaders, easy access to most things, great cabin and plenty of cockpit for a non-fisherman.
Thanks
Fred

Good morning everyone !

So, currently we have the 8.1 Mercruisers 840hp combined 200 hrs each on them.

It really is like a condo on the water. Its in a downtown slip and we found that its perfect walking distance to many fine dining establishments, so there may be an bit of an appeal as an alternative to a real estate endeavor.

Maybe its more of a hoarding problem, but can you every really have too many?

Thanks for the welcomes, I am sure we will need plenty of help in the coming months.

One of the ways I look at boating may be a bit different than others. Many people like to say they have a cottage on the water. That's fine. I like to say I have a cottage IN the water. And, I can take my cottage places. Call it odd or whatever but that is my take on things.
