Hi from Wisconsin! Shopping for a Carver

Postby WiscoBoater » October 16th, 2020, 9:57 am

Hi folks,

I've been in the hunt for our next boat for a year now and have come across a few that could have worked, but with the market being busy these days, we've missed out on a couple of them already. I currently own a 2002 Regal 2665 Commodore that we've had for 3 seasons now, and this is our 7th boat in the last 20 years. The next boat will be a motor yacht and we've looked at Mainship 34 MY's, a couple of Silverton's, a Bayliner 3888, and a handful of Carvers (3, 3607's, and a 355).

We've pretty much nailed down the fact that we do want a Carver...and it's down to the 325, 33, 355, or 356 at this point. The 3607 would still be a contender if the right one came along. My biggest blocker for one's with 38-39' LOA's is I am in a 35' slip, and marina "rules" say no overhang...although almost every boat in my marina overhangs the slip. I may be able to get away with it, but that is why the 325 is in the mix. 40' slips are hard to come by right now.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi, get my first post out here, and start to look around.

Welcome aboard and good luck with your search. I know it's a tough market for buyers but don't let that influence the steps you should be taking prior to closing the deal such as a survey, sea trail, etc.

What's the budget? 1998-355 @ $80's and a 2001-356 @ $90's here in NY. Also a 2001-380 Santego @ $60's here too! May be a bit of a boat trip from NY, but what fun it would be hey!

Wisco - I have a 95 Carver Mariner 330. I have been thinking about making a change to a center console, but have not found "the one". Kind of in the same boat as you. :-D Anyway, if this is interesting to you, PM me a phone number & I can send pics. It is stored in warm storage, so easy to see if you desire. Welcome to the forum! Great place to spend the of season, talking about boats! 8-) er

If you’re concerned about overhang, you might want to scratch the 355-356 as they are both around 40’. The 366 that replaced the 356 might fit...several feet shorter

I'm in a 40' slip and even pulled back so I only have about 6" from the swim platform to the dock my 3
55 still sticks out well over a foot. So if your in a 35' skip you will be halfway across the fairway. :-D
