Hard to say without actually being there but if I had to guess, I'd say it's a compromised core. If this vessel has been docked uncovered most of its life, chances are water has migrated through the stanchions and hardtop supports (if applicable) into the core. Moisture readings and soundings of the area will give you a better picture whether that's actually the case and if so, how widespread it is.

Is this a new issue? New to you boat? If just bought, did you surveyor not notice this?

The area in question doesn't have to be directly exposed to be affected. Water can get in through exterior points exposed to the elements such as stanchions/supports as I mentioned above, then the moisture will migrate through the core. Whether you actually see any leaks below in the aft cabin depends on the severity of the intrusion and how saturated the core is. The sound could also be delamination which is why you should consider having someone assess it. A surveyor would give you a pretty good idea of what's going on and whether you need to worry about it right now and what to do to prevent it from getting worse.Jwnewman wrote:Source of the post....Boat gets hauled out and shrink-wrapped Factory hardtop and rear isinglass all enclosed with no water leaks as of today?....
